Wheeling Post 1 offense explodes for 18 hits in 12-5 victory over Post 60 Knights

MORGANTOWN — If you were anywhere near Dale Miller Field at Mylan Park on Friday night, you would’ve heard no shortage of the ping of the bats of the Wheeling Post 1 hitters.

The defending state champions moved to 2-0 in state tournament play with a 12-5 victory over the Post 60 Knights on Day Two of the 2025 Legion Baseball State Tournament on Friday.

Post 1 tallied 18 hits to score those 18 runs, with seven players earning multiple knocks. Three players totaled three hits while a trio of pitchers struck out six and only allowed one walk amongst themselves.

With the victory, Wheeling continues on in the winner’s bracket and will await the winner of Charleston Post 65 and Morgantown Post 2 Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Post 60 will play Beckley Bash Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in an elimination game.

Rocco Digiandomenico led Post 1, going 3 for 5 with two doubles and four RBI. Seth Cover also had three hits, driving in two runs and scoring three as well.

Wheeling opened the scoring in the top of the third inning as Ryland Robb singled to break the ice. Cover then drove home a pair of runs with a base hit, and Digiandomenico followed with one of his two doubles to open a 4-0 lead.

Post 60 tied the game in the bottom of the fourth after a pair of runs, but Wheeling scored five runs in the fifth inning to open a lead it wouldn’t surrender.

Cover singled home the first run before scoring on a double by Jaxson Murray. Zade Billings singled, and then Digiandomenico hit his second double to score two more runs. Post 1 added three more runs in the top of the sixth to secure the victory and advance to the winner’s bracket on Day Three.

Jake Brown earned the win for Wheeling, allowing three hits and two runs over two and two-thirds innings with one strikeout. Tucker Doty collected the save.
