Wheeling Central wins Brooke Invitational; Shamrocks score home sweep vs. River
Wheeling Central shocked the field at Wednesday’s Brooke Invitational with a ten stroke win over many of the Ohio Valley’s top boys golf teams at beautiful Highland Springs Golf Course. The Knights were led by senior Brody Burge who was medalist shooting 72 on the sun drenched course. The rest of their roster consisted of freshman and sophomores who included Rowan Parker (79), Zack Zande (80), and Isaac Tiu (83) to reach a team total of 314.
John Marshall finished 10 shots back at 324, led by sophomore all-tourney member Braden Kempkens with a 74. Freshman Hayden Harvey (82) and Drew Marling (84) as well as senior Brandt Blake (84) rounded out the Monarchs lineup.
Morgantown finished third led by Matty Brown who completed his round with 80 shots.
A veteran University squad finished fourth and was led by Will Biddington with 79 and Owen Estel with 82.
Weir finished fifth, led by Isaiah Smith’s 79. Linsly came in sixth, led by Chase Bacchus’ 81.

Shamrocks Score Home Sweep
BARNESVILLE — Barnesville swept visiting River on Wednesday, the Pilots falling 25-22, 25-13, 25-19.
River was led by Hallie Hammel, who finished with a team-high 10 kills, and 15 digs, one shy of Aubrey Fetty’s team-high 16.
Reagan Lucas had five kills and 14 digs for the Pilots.

Crusaders Top Cadets
STEUBENVILLE — Steubenville Catholic netted a goal about four minutes into its match against Linsly, and the Crusaders tacked on four more en route to a 5-2 victory Wednesday evening at the Tony Recinella Soccer Field.
The first four goals scored by the Blue and Gold came on the near (benches) side of the pitch.
The Crusaders scored the first three goals of the match, and the hosts led by four in the second half before the Cadets netted their second goal.
Individually for Catholic Central, Isabelle Lee tallied two goals, Gianna Rook collected a goal and an assist and Zelie Baillargeon and Zoe Wise each delivered a goal. Monica Bolster also contributed an assist in the win.
Aurie Hoover made one save in goal for the winners.
Evangeline Yendell tallied a goal and an assist to lead the way for the girls in white, while Victoria Ribeiro de Oliveira collected the goal.
Catholic Central outshot Linsly, 10-3, on its way to the win. All 13 shots in the match were on goal.
Catholic Central is scheduled to play United at 11 a.m. Saturday at home.
Linsly is slated to play East Fairmont Saturday afternoon at home.
