Wheeling Park, John Marshall pick up decisive wins on the pitch

WELLSBURG — Wheeling Park had eight different players score goals in its 10-0 shellacking of host Brooke Thursday night in boys’ soccer action.

Wilson Hanna and Brian Gonzalez each found the net twice for the Patriots, while Gonzalez also notched three assists.

Aiden McCrosky had a goal and assist.

Jacob Robinson stopped three shots for the shutout.

Monarchs Blow Out Caldwell

CALDWELL — Ethan Corvino netted three goals in leading John Marshall to a 16-0 rout of Caldwell.

Also scoring for the Monarchs (3-3) was Trent Burton (2), Cooper Berlin (2), Ashton Murphy (2), Quinton West, Kingsley Zheng, Zaiden Becker, Austin Bumgardner, Cash McLendon, Connor Fromhart and Sam Keyser.

GIRLS SOCCER

Wheeling Central 4, Morgantown 1

EAST WHEELING — Elizabeth Steele scored twice for the Maroon Knights in their victory over the visiting Mohigans. Loni Kusic and Elah Konkle also found the net for the winners.

Maddie Steele had a pair of assists.

Bella Fitzsimmons recorded four saves.

VOLLEYBALL

Union Local Sweeps Bellaire

BELLAIRE — The Jets soared to a 25-9, 25-20 and 25-14 victory over the host Big Reds inside the ‘House of Champions.’

Ameera Saunders led Union Local with 12 kills and nine digs. Alli Kellaway added 12 digs, seven kills and a trio of service aces, while Laken Vinskovich had seven kills and 10 digs. Delaney Butler charted 23 assists.

Martins Ferry Sweeps

Wheeling Central

MARTINS FERRY — The Purple Riders managed to keep a lid on the Maroon Knights on Thursday at home, dealing Central a defeat in three sets, 25-16, 25-17, 25-21.

Ferry junior Giana Chirpas continued her strong season with 19 kills, two blocks and three service aces.

Nicole Hammerquist had 14 kills and three blocks for Martins Ferry. SJ Koller finished with 16 digs, and Olivia Harkness had 35 assists.

Zeps Defeat Tigers

SARAHSVILLE — Shenandoah defended their home court on Thursday, sweeping the Tigers 25-11, 25-15, 25-21.

Aubrey Nippert finished with six kills, a team-high for Shadyside, while Sophie Boltz had four.

Nippert also had two service aces.

Ali Weatherson totaled 16 assists with five digs. Ava Mercer finished with 13 digs while Molly Boltz had seven for the visiting Tigers.

Monarchs Knock Off Warren

GLEN DALE — The Monarchs defeated the Warriors, who entered the night as the No. 2 team in the Class 5A standings, on Thursday night. John Marshall won 25-17, 25-19, 25-14.

Knights Take Down

Pilots On The Road

HANNIBAL — River fell to visiting Tyler on Thursday in four sets, 25-22, 14-25, 25-18, 25-14.

Hallie Hammel did it all for the Pilots, leading her team in kills with 20 and digs with 21.

Also for River, Raegan Lucas finished with six kills, Aubrey Fetty had 18 digs and Maci Isaly had 15 assists.

Valley Falls To Wood County

The Wildcats defeated the Lumberjills 25-20, 15-25, 25-9 and 25-22.

Wheeling Central Blanks

Oak Glen

WHEELING — The Maroon Knights defeated the Golden Bears 6-0 on 16th Street Field on Wednesday.

Central received a pair of goals from both Mason Smith and Luke Magruder, while Grady Mullin and Dominic Lawrence also found the back of the net once each.

Hunter Kinkade tallied two assists. Magruder, Conor Wood and Owen Mullin also had assists as Wheeling Central moved to 4-1 on the season.
