BARNESVILLE – The state-ranked Martins Ferry Purple Riders (13-0) volleyball team defeated the host Barnesville Shamrocks on Monday night by scores of 19-25, 25-16, 25-15 and 25-15. It was a milestone night for a pair of Martins Ferry players as senior SJ Koller had 29 digs to surpass the 2,000-mark and junior Olivia Harkness recorded an eye-popping 50 assists to move past the 2,000 mark. Cardinals Complete Comeback For MEC Opening Win Over Fairmont State

WHEELING – The Mountain East Conference football schedule kicked off on Saturday on Bishop Schmitt Field at Panhandle Cleaning & Restoration and WesBanco Stadium as Wheeling University (2-2, 1-0) welcomed in Fairmont State for the conference opener, and it took the full 60 minutes to decide the winner. In the end, the Cardinals came out on top 28-24, getting off to a 1-0 start to MEC play for the third year in a row.
