BARNESVILLE — Kelley Hanlon was to begin her Barnesville softball coaching career last year, but COVID-19 caused the season to be canceled.
The Shamrocks also lost half-a-dozen seniors for various reasons, leaving them with just three returning letterwinners — all 2-year veterans.
“We had one girls transfer to another school, and two transfers that came in last year had to move away this year,” Hanlon explained.
The returning letterwinners are led by senior starter Shayla Hunter (C). Juniors Tessa Johnston (P/2B) and Savanna Robinson (OF/C) are the others.
“We’re very excited to get back on the field,” Hanlon said. “We will be in a ‘growing-the-program’ year with all the losses from 2020, but the girls are working really hard. We are trying to get out the kinks.”
The remainder of the Shamrocks roster is comprised of seniors Olivia Starr (OF) and Mackenzie Shultz (OF/3B); juniors Jasmine Caldwell (P) and Breanna Meade (1B); sophomores Kynlie Cline (SS) and Katelyn Arigoni (OF/3B); and freshmen Jayln Skinner (OF), Emmy Gibbons (Util), Jadyn Thorton (P/1B), Maddie Schaffer (OF) and Ellie Thompson (Util).
