Barnesville wrestler claims title
BRECKSVILLE, Oh. — Barnesville’s Ayden King continued his dominating season over the weekend by claiming the 165-pound title at the prestigious Brecksville Invitational Holiday wrestling tournament.
The top-seeded Shamrock senior received a first-round bye before recording three consecutive pins (1:24, 0:39 and 1:11) that advanced him to the semifinals. He then posted a 10-0 major decision over Malvern’s Tyson Clear before edging past Massillon Perry’s Landon Johnson, 4-3, in the championship bout.
King, a two-time state placer, was fifth as a sophomore at 157 and third last winter at 165. He is a sparkling 26-2 this season. His only two losses came at the prestigious Ironmen event where he took fifth.
Clear is ranked No. 3 in Division III by the website Borofan. He is a two-time all-Ohioan, finishing fourth both times. Johnson, meanwhile, is the top-ranked wrestler in Division I and finished runner up in the Buckeye State last year at 165.
