Post 159 Walks Off Wheeling 6-5

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – St. Clairsville Post 159 walked a tightrope on their way to a 6-5 victory over Wheeling Post 1 in an eventful game which saw the two squads go tit-for-tat until Post 159 scored on an error in the bottom of the seven to walk off Wheeling.

Wheeling took the lead in the second inning upon an RBI base hit from Ryland Robb, and extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth, but St. Clairsville tied the game in the bottom half with a three-spot. A single by Max Miller and double by Rowan Mellott drove in a trio of runs for Post 159.

Wheeling and St. Clairsville each scored two runs in the sixth. Wheeling scored on an error and a Jack Selmon bases-loaded walk.

St. Clairsville’s Niko Jacob singled to drive in a pair and tie the game 5-5.

Eli Smith earned the win for Post 159, pitching the final 2.1 innings and striking out three. Dylan Blon started the game for St. Clairsville and pitched 4.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts.

Braxton Billick had three hits for Wheeling. Jake Brown doubled, Post 1’s lone extra-base hit of the game.

Seth Cover had two RBI for Wheeling.

Brody Saunders tallied two hits for St. Clairsville. Post 159 had seven hits on the game, Post 1 had nine.

Of the 11 runs scored in the game, just one went down as earned. Wheeling committed five errors, St. Clairsville committed four.

Post 159 and Post 1 have split their two regular season games after Post 1 took the two teams’ first meeting 15-6. Wheeling now prepares for the Area 1 Tournament, beginning July 14. St. Clairsville has a couple more regular season dates before they participate in the Region 4 Tournament, set to start July 16.
