Red Devils defeat Shamrocks; Bulldogs back to winning ways

PINE GROVE — The Valley Lumberjills’ Laken Dawson scored her 1,000th career point while helping her team cruise to a 69-19 victory over Union on Friday night.

Dawson poured in 24 points to lead the way for Valley. She put through six field goals to score a quick 12 points in the opening quarter.

The Lumberjills senior was joined in double figures by Michaela Miller, who scored 15, and Aubree Mason, who posted 10.

Valley led 23-5 after the first quarter and 36-9 at halftime.

BOYS BASKETBALL

St. Clairsville 68,

Barnesville 38

BARNESVILLE — The Red Devils (10-2) received a career-high 24 points from junior Brody Clifford and 6-7 Griffin Straub added 21 in a 30-point win on the road. Niko Jacob added 10.

Evan Carpenter drilled four triples for 12 points to pace the Shamrocks. Ryker Willis added 10.

Bridgeport 75,

Steubenville Catholic 39

STEUBENVILLE — The Bulldogs (8-2) snapped a two-game losing skid as Jaleel Vincent (21) and Jaki Threet (20) combined for 41 points in their win over the Crusaders in the Mickey Barber Gymnasium.

Evan Clark added 10 points for Bridgeport, one more than Coen Brinker.

Rahim Mitchell led the hosts with 15.

Shenandoah 62, Shadyside 57

SARAHSVILLE — Wyatt Parr netted 17 points and Bryce Sloan added 14 but it wasn’t enough to keep the Tigers from falling to the hosts Zeps.

Braxton Barnett led Shenandoah with 15.

Cambridge 46, Union Local 43

CAMBRIDGE — The Bobcats’ Garrett Carpenter’s conventional three-point play with :05 left to play lifted the hosts over the Jets.

Brody Kerns and Bobby Boone evenly divided 24 points for Union Local.

Monroe Central 69, River 42

WOODSFIELD — Cooper Howell scored 22, Caedyn Silva added 19 and Blake Yontz contributed 16 as the Seminoles rolled past the Pilots on Junior Winland Court inside Monroe Central High School.

Crestyn Isaly paced River with 14 points. Evan Longwell added 10.

Brooke 53, Indian

Creek 36

WELLSBURG — The Bruins led by one in the first quarter before leading by as many as 17 points in the third en route to a 53-36 victory against Indian Creek on Friday night inside the Brooke Wellness Center.

Pete Fodor finished with a team-high 14 points to lead the way offensively for the Bruins, Morris recorded 13 and Andrew Murdock collected 11. Murdock contributed five assists in the win, Morris contributed five blocks and Fodor delivered three steals.

Nishon White led the Red-and-Gold with a game-high 16 points, while Evan McGrew and Caden Saffle each finished with eight.

The Bruins have now won five games in a row.

BOWLING

Brooke Sweeps

Wheeling Park

WELLSBURG — The Bruins posted a 1,927 to 1,681 victory in boys’ action as Alex Obeldobel rolled a 221 game and a 355 series. Brady Yost had a 210 and 386, respectively.

Wheeling Park was led by Brice Ritchea with a 176 game and 321 series. Chase Smith had a 162 and 323, respectively.

On the girls side, Brooke won 1,478 to 1,368 as Kaylee Tuttle had a 169 game and 290 series.

The Patriots were Erin Elswick with a 164 and 283, respectively.

Linsly Splashes To Pair Of Wins

WHEELING — The Cadets posted victories over the Crusaders by scores of 101-47 in boys’ action and 126-21 in girls.

BOYS

Pablo Hernandez, Sebastian Jayakumar and Jaylen Wong each won a pair of events for Linsly.

Hernandez captured the 200 Freestyle (2:11.12) and the 500 Freestyle (6:02.39). Jayakumar won the 200 IM (2:15.30) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:07.70). Women swam to titles in the 100 Backstroke (1:11.96) and 100 Freestyle (57.37).

GIRLS

Cassie Merinar and Adriana Lopez Alonso each won two events.

Merinar took the 200 Freestyle (2:13.29) and the 500 Freestyle (5:54.59), while Alonso touched the wall first in the 200 IM (2:35.39) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:16.28).
