The club’s eighth tournament of the season was held last Sunday with 85 players taking part in a tournament that utilized a format of 50 percent handicap, best-ball at Crispin. Winning the title was Jay Davis and Mike Bogers, who posted a 59. Shawn Pennybacker and Bill Piko finished second with a 61, while Joe Hartman and Jim Tysk, who also signed for a 61, were third. WELLSBURG — The name Paul “Bud” Billiard is synonymous with Brooke High School football. And rightly so. Billiard guided the Bruins to the grandest of heights during his 23-year tenure (1979-2001) as head coach. The 1959 Wellsburg grad compiled a sparkling 185-79-1 mark. DEFIANCE — He has a football resume second to none when it comes to rebuilding down-trodden football programs. Now Manny Matsakis is poised for his latest gridiron challenge. The Shadyside High product accepted the head football coaching position at Defiance College late last month. The NCAA Division III Yellow Jackets went 2-8 last fall. The Oglebay Park Golf Club hosted the Main Street Bank Club Championship event last weekend. The two-day tournament was split between the Spiedel Golf Course and Crispin course with the former hosting the opening round. Bob Clark had two impressive rounds of golf en route to shooting a 9-under, 133. he opened with a 3-under, 69 at Jones and shared the lead with Bryan Myers and Brooke Garrison.
