One of the most impressive things about the Ohio Valley is how people are willing to help or come to the aid of a fellow man. Buckeye Local has been on the receiving end a handful of times and now the Panthers are doing their part to help one of their own. Athletics Director Sam “Chicken” Jones is spearheading a three-man golf scramble to benefit former Buckeye Local High School staff member, Jeff Vinci. Seamon battles brutal weather in Beantown

WHEELING — Walter Seamon has authored a memorable resume at the Boston Marathon. The 77-year-old has enjoyed numerous high age-group finishes in the granddaddy of all marathons, including a runnerup trophy in 2009. The Wheeling resident placed fifth last April. So this past Monday, Seamon entered the 26-plus mile jaunt with no expectations other than to enjoy his 19th foray through the streets and suburbs of Beantown. Wheeling Park Golf Club holds first two events

The Wheeling Park Golf Club resumed its play earlier this month and will continue throughout the summer with a host of events. The Undo’s Bestball Scramble was held on April 15. The duo of Lightner and Kupfer prevailed with a score of 62. They were four shots better than Melnik and Younkins. Evans and Miller were third with a score of 67. Moore and DeSantis also signed for a 67. Alig and Eikey posted a 69. Wurtzbacher and Usenick won the handicap scoring portion of the event with a 59. Also with a 59 was Morrison and DeSantis. Lewicki ponders future following initial pro season

GLEN DALE - Kristin Lewicki has achieved a lifetime goal. Now it is time to step back and ponder her future. The John Marshall grad just recently completed her first year as a professional hockey player after a remarkable collegiate career. She helped the Buffalo Beauts reach the National Women's Hockey League championship game last month. Lewicki enjoyed a banner rookie campaign, making the NWHL All-Star Game and winning the Fastest Skater Award in conjunction with the game. OFF THE TEE: Glitch claims victory in Oglebay Park Golf Club

The Oglebay Park Golf Club took advantage of the sunny skies last Sunday for its second event of the young season, the Allen Kage Memorial Snowbird. The event featured 51 players at the Crispin Center. By virtue of a score-card playoff, Bill “Tice” Glitch won the championship with a round of 73. Also signing for a 73 was George Templin. Checking in with rounds of 74 were Brian Ghaphery, Bryan Myers and Paul Kurtz. Rich Humphrey was seventh with a 76, while Chris Kiedaisch posted a 78.
