Empowering women through philanthropy: Women’s Giving Circle awards grants

WHEELING — Twelve organizations serving women and girls in the Ohio Valley have received grants from the Women’s Giving Circle.

An initiative of the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley, the Women’s Giving Circle seeks to empower through philanthropy by making strategic, researched-based grants supporting projects serving women and girls. Grants totaling $50,675 were awarded to the following organizations:

∫ Augusta Levy Learning Center Pre-employment skills $ 2,625

∫ Crittenton Foundation, Inc. Parenting program $ 2,000

∫ Family Service — Upper Ohio Valley Food security program for senior women $ 5,000

∫ Oglebay Institute Art experiences for girls $ 4,000

∫ SMART — Center Summer camp, girls enjoying math and science (GEMS) $ 2,050

∫ The Greater Wheeling Coalition for the Homeless, Inc. Female Empowerment Program $ 6,000

∫ Tri-County Help Center, Inc. Prevention education at detention center $ 500.00

∫ Wheeling Country Day School Provide summer camp discounts to ignite girls’ passions for learning $ 3,500

∫ Wheeling Health Right, Inc. Nutrition and lifestyle program for women $ 4,000

∫ WVNCC Foundation Emergency assistance for female students experiencing challenges that may disrupt course attendance or degree completion $ 4,000

∫ YWCA Wheeling, WV ReEntry program to provide guidance prior to release of incarceration $ 7,000.00

∫ Youth Services System, Inc. Transitional living program for young women $ 10,000

The WGC is building a community of philanthropists and creating a legacy to address the needs of women and girls in areas served by the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley.

In its grantmaking history, the Women’s Giving Circle has awarded over $450,000 to projects supporting this area of focus.
