Belmont County retired teachers to meet

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Belmont County Retired Teachers Association will hold a luncheon and meeting at noon April 4 at Mehlman’s Cafeteria. Attendees do not need to make a reservation. They will go through the line and pay for their own meal, so they should arrive by 11:30 a.m. Dues or scholarship donations can be paid by sending a check to Donna Kennedy 105 Arlington St., Bridgeport, OH 43912. The program will be by Joe Ellis, retired Martins Ferry teacher and author of several books. The service project will be a collection of money or gift cards for Kroger, Walmart, Riesbeck’s or Aldi to be donated to a local food pantry. Prospective members should call Dorothy Strama at 304-281-1425. Any educational professional, regardless of where they live, is invited to join.

Bridgeport Fire Department receives grant

BRIDGEPORT — The Bridgeport Fire Department was awarded the Equipment Grant from the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office in the amount of $15,000 Monday. This will allow the department to purchase three new complete sets of personal protective equipment/turnout gear, two battery-operated chain saws, a battery-operated cut saw and some LED road flares.

Belmont DD board to meet

ST. CLAIRSVIILLE — The Belmont County Board of Developmental Disabilities will meet in regular session at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at 68421 Hammond Rd., St. Clairsville, OH.

Martins Ferry to host spring cleanup day

MARTINS FERRY — The city of Martins Ferry will host its annual spring cleanup from 8 a.m. to noon April 6 at the city garage on First Street. All participants must be Martins Ferry residents and will need to bring identification or a water bill as proof of residency. The city will not accept tires, paint or hazardous materials. There will be an extra charge for mattresses and box springs.

Belmont College board meeting set

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Belmont College will hold its next Board of Trustees meeting on March 21 in the boardroom at the Academic Technical Center in St. Clairsville. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

Road closed for slip repair

WOODSFIELD — Monroe County Road 10 (Benwood Road) will have daytime closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday starting March 18 for approximately four weeks between Township Road 495 and Township Road 496 for slip repair, weather permitting.

Bellaire school board session scheduled

BELLAIRE — The Bellaire Local Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. Monday in the Bellaire High School cafeteria.

No trespassing at old Woodsfield high school

WOODSFIELD — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office announced that the former Woodsfield high school has been forfeited to Monroe County due to a sheriff’s office drug investigation in 2020. It was brought to the sheriff office’s attention that the building was not secure and that numerous individuals have entered the structure. On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office posted no trespassing signs on the structure. If anyone enters the structure, they will be trespassing, and charges will be filed accordingly.

Pease Township trustees to meet

MARTINS FERRY — The Board of Pease Township Trustees will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the township garage, located at 69813 Forest Drive, Martins Ferry.

Tiltonsville Fire Department receives grant for new equipment

TILTONSVILLE — The Tiltonsville Fire Department received information Monday that the department has been awarded the Equipment Grant from the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office for $14,871.40. This will allow the department to purchase three new sets of personal protective equipment/turnout gear, six new hydrant wrenches, new extrication gloves for all personnel, extra gloves for new hires and two new scene lights.

Switzerland of Ohio School District to meet

WOODSFIELD — The Switzerland of Ohio Local School District will have its monthly board meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at Swiss Hills Career Center.

Monroe County EMA collecting donations for storm recovery

WOODSFIELD — According to a statement from the Monroe County Emergency Management, anyone wanting to donate to the recovery of the Feb. 28 storm may do so by sending or dropping off those donations to the Monroe County Disaster Recovery Committee at 108 W. Court St., Woodsfield, OH 43793. Donations will go to those in need of some assistance that were affected by the storm. If anyone has any questions or would like more details, call the county EMA at 740-472-2144.

Utility installation to stall traffic

MORRISTOWN — At 8 a.m. Monday, Interstate 70 traffic will be slowed to a stop in both directions 1 mile east of exit 208 (for Morristown/Ohio 149) for overhead utility line installation. The Ohio State Highway Patrol will roll traffic to a stop just before mile marker 210 while the contractor runs overhead fiber optic cables across the east and westbound lanes of I-70.

Only one stoppage is necessary to complete the work. Delays are expected to last up to 15 minutes.

Road work start date moved

BARNESVILLE — The start date for a project to repair a slide on Ohio 147 southeast of Barnesville near Ryan Road is now March 18. During the project, traffic will be maintained via temporary traffic signals with an 11-foot width restriction. The completion date for the repair work is Oct. 31.

Waste authority meeting slated

STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson-Belmont Regional Solid Waste Authority Board will hold its regular monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Jefferson JBGT building, 228 Technology Way, Steubenville.

Mental health board sets sessions

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The regular meeting of the Mental Health and Recovery Board will be held at 6 p.m. March 19 at the MHR Board Office. Guests can attend at 99 N. Sugar Street, St. Clairsville. Its Personnel & Board Membership Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Board Office.

Annual meeting planned

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Belmont County General Health District Advisory Council will hold its annual meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Belmont County Emergency Management Agency center, 68329 Bannock Road, St. Clairsville. The council, consisting of the president of the Board of County Commissioners, the chief executive of each municipal corporation not constituting a city health district, and the president of the Board of Township Trustees of each township shall meet annually in March per Ohio Revised Code 3709.03. This meeting is for the purpose of electing the chair and secretary, making necessary appointments to the board of health, receiving and considering the annual or special reports from the board of health, and making recommendations for the betterment of health and sanitation within the district or for needed legislation. BELMONT — The Union Local School District Education Innovation Committee will meet at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Central Office Conference Room.

Land bank session slated

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Belmont County Land Reutilization Corp. will hold its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday in the commissioners’ meeting room in the Belmont County Courthouse. The meeting will be open to the public.

Health board meets Monday

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Belmont County Board of Health will conduct its regular board meeting at noon Monday at the Belmont County Disaster Services (EMA) Building, 68329 Bannock Road, Ohio 331, St. Clairsville.
