FLUSHING — The second annual Dutton Ranch Night BBQ & Concert will add camping to its list of attractions.
The concert will take place June 6 at the Dutton Cattle Ranch at 42460 Dutton Drive, Flushing.
Event founder and organizer Chris Dutton said the area that will be used for the camping experience previously was an unused pasture.
On Wednesday night, Dutton held an open house of sorts as a way to show future concert-goers where the camping location will be on June 6.
“I thought it was important to bring people here and just have a literal open house to say, ‘OK, if you’re interested in camping this is where it’s going to be,'” Dutton said.
He added that prior to the open house, he assumed people would purchase the tickets when available and then on the day of the event be confused about where the camping area is.
“I just wanted to be able to add a little more transparency and also bring people onto the farm on a nice night,” Dutton said.
The venue will provide a shuttle for people attending the concert due to the ranch being a rather large and complex location.
Dutton Ranch Night BBQ & Concert originally was planned to be just a one-time event but due to its success and perceived community desire for more, Dutton decided to host the event for a second time in 2025.
Dutton formerly hosted an event called Blame My Roots Festival, which was aimed to replace Jamboree In The Hills and serves as the catalyst for him to create the Ranch Night concert.
“Blame My Roots got to the point where we were almost forcing things,” he said. “For my sanity, it’s just nicer to do these sort of smaller events and let it build organically and see what happens.”
The open house was a smaller event geared toward providing a relaxing evening with country music on a speaker, a bonfire, beer, burgers and hot dogs. The burgers and hot dogs were provided by Pike 40 Restaurant, which is owned and operated by the Dutton family.
Dutton Family Cattle Co. Marketing Manager Brandi Waligura said that roughly a month ago, Ranch Night posted on its social media that not only would it be coming back for round two but that the option of camping would be available for an additional fee.
“We weren’t sure what the response was going to be and the response was great, which was really cool because we haven’t announced a lineup yet,” Waligura said. “So Chris thought it would be a fun and cool idea for people who saw it on Facebook or Instagram to come out and see the campground area.”
The addition of Pike 40 grilling burgers and hot dogs made the open house a full-circle event because the food was raised on the Dutton Ranch.
“Pike 40 Restaurant and Bar is owned by the Dutton family, and they served food at Ranch Night the first year because it was grown here and people really liked that aspect of Ranch Night so we’ll obviously be doing that again for year two,” she said.
Pike 40 Chef Brian “Pork Chop” Sochor was manning the grill at the open house. Waligura said his presence brought a sense of synergy to the event by tying in the Duttons’ restaurant with their chef serving farm-to-table burgers and hot dogs made from beef raised on the Duttons’ ranch at an event on the family’s ranch.
Dutton added that tickets for the second annual Ranch Night & BBQ are al la carte, meaning that the purchase of a camping ticket doesn’t include tickets to the concert and vice versa. Tickets for camping will go on sale before the holiday season with concert tickets going on sale in February.
