Washington Avenue Bridge is planned to close on Dec. 2

WHEELING — The City of Wheeling announced Friday that the Washington Avenue Bridge is planned to close to all traffic beginning Tuesday, Dec. 2. Traffic will be barred from the bridge, a major connection between National Road and the neighborhood around WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital, as crews fully replace it. It is anticipated the closure will last until early October 2026. Work will begin on Nov. 17 near the bridge, but traffic will be maintained via traffic control measures such as flaggers until Dec. 2. BELMONT COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT At 11:09 p.m. Wednesday, officers assisted the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office with attempting to locate a male who was reportedly having health issues. Units responded to an address on Kinney Road in Beallsville, but did not come in contact with the male. STEUBENVILLE — Next generation upgrades coming at Jefferson County’s 911 center will make it more efficient while boosting location accuracy. A 2023 law mandated all 88 Ohio counties transition from their current, analog systems to NexGen 911’s digital, internet-based system.
