Two ‘sweet’ stores coming to Ohio Valley Mall

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Two new stores are slated to open at the Ohio Valley Mall that are sure to satisfy those who love sweets and treats by either late summer or early fall.

According to Joe Bell, spokesman for the Cafaro Co., which owns the mall, Sweet Treats Featuring Jelly Belly will operate inside the mall in a 1,428-square-foot store next to the Kidz Zone play area near the main entrance to the mall. Division One Donuts will occupy the space between Great Clips and Huntington Bank outside the mall that used to house Sincerely Yogurt.

“Sweet Treats will feature a wide assortment of packaged and bulk candy, especially Jelly Belly beans,” Bell said. “Ice cream offerings are an added attraction.”

Sweet Treats will be owned and operated by Carrie and Robert Brooks of Flushing.

Division One Donuts will provide fresh, made-to-order doughnuts, a niche that owner Brian Kolb, a Bridgeport native who now lives in St. Clairsville, thought needed to be filled. Kolb said he and his wife, Amy, have a passion for doughnuts and a passion for sports, and he and his family developed the idea to bring the two passions together with the new store.

With the store, Kolb plans to highlight Division I college sports as well as the local Ohio Valley Athletic Conference which he deems “the biggest and best conference in the country.”

“We will have 16 donut options to choose from, or you can choose your own doughnut and toppings. For example, one of our doughnuts is “The Lineman’s Dream,” which is a vanilla cake doughnut with maple glaze with crumbled bacon on top — sweet and savory,” Kolb said. “And we will have TVs playing college sports all day. We are discussing with the OVAC to have a place on the wall to honor athletes, post scores and pictures to recognize local sports.”

Kolb’s son, Brady, is an upcoming high school sophomore and plays football for the St. Clairsville Red Devils. His other son, Alex, a sophomore at Kent State University, studies architecture and helped design the remodel of the inside of the new store.

Mall Marketing Director Candi Noble-Greathouse said the mall is glad to have the new tenants, as the two new stores will cater to whom they already view as their main shoppers — families with children.

“We are very excited for these stores. And who doesn’t love doughnuts and ice cream, for that matter?” Noble-Greathouse said. “And Sweet Treats is located right next to the Kidz Zone playground. Perfect.”

The new additions are the latest in a string of new stores joining the merchant lineup at Ohio Valley Mall. Marshalls department store will open its doors in the fall.

The 20,000 square foot store will be located in a space formerly occupied by Elder-Beerman. And a brand new, 25,000-square-foot Levin Furniture & Mattress Express showroom will open in the former hh gregg location. The mall currently features more than 100 retailers, restaurants and hotels.
