OSHP probes fatal crash

HOPEDALE — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred around 9 p.m. on Harrison County Road 5 near Township Road 59 in Green Township.

According to OSHP reports, Michael G. Tolar, 33, was operating a silver 2005 Chrysler Town & Country minivan eastbound on Harrison County Road 5 when attempting to follow a left curve of the roadway.

The vehicle drove off the right edge of the road and struck a guardrail causing it to overturn down an embankment. As the vehicle rolled, Tolar was ejected, causing fatal injuries.

An unknown female passenger in the vehicle was initially transported to Weirton Medical Center in Weirton, West Virginia and subsequently life flighted to Allegheny General Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. The female passenger’s condition is unknown at this time.

Multiple crews assisted at the scene including the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Cadiz Fire Department, Hopedale Fire Department and EMS, Scio EMS, and the Harrison County Coroner’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation.
