Harrison auditor reappraises property
CADIZ — This is a property reappraisal year for Harrison County.
The Harrison County Auditor’s Office posted about the process on its Facebook page. In Ohio, county auditors must reappraise every real estate parcel in their county once every six years.
The office wrote: “This value reflects what you could have sold your property for on Jan. 1, 2023, based on comparable sales data from the past three years. If you are satisfied with the tentative value, there is nothing more you need to do.”
The auditor’s office will host informal meetings to provide more information or answer questions about the tentative value and reappraisal process.
The office recommends that residents attend one of the meetings if they believe the tentative value for their property is not what they could have sold their property for on Jan. 1 of this year.
The meetings will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Scio Library Branch, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the Harrison County Auditor’s Office and from 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the Puskarich Public Library in Cadiz.
The office posted that the auditor cannot currently share information about how the new value will affect residents’ property tax bills.
“Remember taxes will not increase at the same rate as property values. The 2023 property tax rates will not be calculated until after the November election is certified,” the department posted.
Residents can check the new tentative value of their property by going to the auditor’s office webpage at harrisoncountyohio.org. Residents can search using the property owner’s name or business name, address or parcel number.
The auditor’s office is located in the Harrison County Courthouse at 100 W. Market St. in Cadiz and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The auditor’s office can be contacted at 740-942-8861.
