Officials heard about a coming community cleanup and plans to study and eventually improve the water system.

BELLAIRE — Bellaire Village Council discussed the need for a water system study during its regular meeting Thursday.

Mayor Edward Marling kicked off the meeting by reminding council that there will be a village cleanup on April 6. The cleanup will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and take place at the marina.

Council then proceeded to vote on ordinance number 052024, which changes the part-time position of administrative assistant to a full-time position and established the hourly salary. Councilwoman Elizabeth Dugmore voted in favor along with Councilwoman Janet Richardson and Councilman Bill Schmitt. Councilmen Mike Doyle and Jerry Olack voted against, and Councilman Robert Kapral abstained.

Meanwhile, Village Administrator Frank Shaffer reported that he is working toward hiring an engineer for the village’s water department.

He talked to a few companies to find the best fit for the village of Bellaire. The company that Shaffer decided to go with was Quicksall out of New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Shaffer said, “Quicksall is willing to do an upfront study on our water and sewer system.”

In addition, Quicksall will be able to help the village apply for grants. Shaffer and Quicksall will meet in person with village officials for a tour of the water treatment plant on April 2.

Councilman Bill Schmitt mentioned that the social media subcommittee met earlier this week to figure out exactly what information it will need for the Village of Bellaire official website. The subcommittee suggested that it would very much like the website to have a search bar at the top of the page. Schmitt said it would be so people viewing the website would be able to go directly to the search bar to type in keywords instead of aimlessly clicking and having to search through multiple pages.

Schmitt said the subcommittee would also like to have a school contact page on the website. He also asked council for help in providing pictures of Bellaire that would be a good fit for the website. He wants to make sure that every single department is fairly represented so they can be seen on the website.

Bellaire Village Council will have an Ordinance Committee meeting at 10 a.m. March 25 and a Finance-Personnel Committee meeting at 10 a.m. March 28, both in council chambers.
