Steubenville man killed in stabbing, one in custody

STEUBENVILLE — A 58-year-old man is dead and a person of interest in custody following a stabbing late Wednesday on Oakmont Avenue, city police reported.

The victim isn’t being identified pending notification of next of kin, Chief Ken Anderson said Thursday afternoon.

The suspect, who also is unidentified, is being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond pending charges, he said.

Police said the incident was reported to 911 dispatchers around 11:45 p.m.

“Officers arrived (at the scene) and located the victim,” Anderson said. “He was transported by Steubenville Fire/EMS to Trinity Medical Center West, where he died from his injuries.”

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived but was located nearby, at Lawson Avenue and Cardinal Street, and taken into custody, he said.
