Fatal crash under investigation in Monroe County
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Ohio State High Patrol Post 7 in St. Clairsville is investigating a traffic crash that claimed the life of one person.
The single-vehicle accident occurred on Ohio 800 near milepost 21 in Center Township.
At about 6:02 p.m. Wednesday, a 2006 GMC Sierra driven by Raymond C. Freeman, 67, of Marietta, Ohio, was traveling south on Ohio 800 when it veered off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree, according to the patrol. Freeman sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, the patrol states in a release. Freeman was wearing a seat belt.
In addition to the patrol, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Woodsfield Volunteer Fire Department, Monroe County EMS and Bill’s Towing responded to the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
