GEORGE ‘BUGS’ PALMER SR.

George J. “Bugs” Palmer Sr., 78, of Shadyside, Ohio, died Friday, October 3, 2025, in Wheeling Hospital surrounded by loved ones.

He was born January 21, 1947, in Jacobsburg, Ohio, a son of the late George O. “Buss” Palmer and Elizabeth E. Brown Palmer.

George was a retired plant engineer from Mayflower Vehicle Systems in Shadyside formerly Motor Panels Inc. and International Harvester. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Bugs was a Methodist, a member of Moriah Lodge #105 F&AM in Powhatan Point, a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Steubenville. Some of his favorite things in life were fishing, boating, camping and watching for “Bigfoot”, riding his motorcycle, welding, fabricating and tinkering in his garage. In his early years he enjoyed hunting.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Max “Toad” Palmer; and sisters-in-law, Eula Mae Palmer, Phyllis Palmer, and Anna Mae Palmer.

George is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Theresa “Terri” Palmer, four children, Missy Williams, Christy (Mark) Graves, Shannan Palmer and George J. (Misty Baker) Palmer Jr.; two brothers, Denver “Burp” Palmer and Ernest “Ike” Palmer; grandchildren, Kayla and Frankie Williams, Braelynn and Kya Lipperman, Mackenzie Murphy, Brandi, Keith and Jacob Baker, Ryan, Robbie and Jennifer Graves; great grandchildren, Dyshon and Davion Gorshe, Kayleona Williams, Liam and Luca Baker, Logan, Lucas, Lincoln, Shelby, Sloane, and London Graves, and Rivers Romero; many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg, Ohio, on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 4 p.m. until time of services beginning at 7:30 p.m., with Full Military Honors conducted by the Belmont County Veterans Association, followed by funeral with Pastor Joel Traylor officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Arbor Day Foundation to plant trees in memory of Bugs.
