The Cross

Dear Editor,

As we approach Good Friday, Jesus’ ultimate question on Golgotha, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Mt 27:45-46, 24:35. RSV) as prompted by God’s ultimate revelation to him that “the End” (Mt 24:36) was at hand for his adjudication as the Supreme Judge of the world is paramount.-Jn 5:22-27

After his failures in the wilderness (Mt 4:1-11), Satan had designed the cross (Lk 22:53) to prove that Jesus the Christ was not human and if he were, that he would curse God: “Skin for skin! All that a man has he will give for his life. But put forth thy hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.”-Job 2:4-5

But Satan was wrong as Jesus endured scourging, crucifixion, and mocking.-Jn 12:27-33, 19:1-19

In thirty-three years and nine months, Jesus literally became the Alpha and Omega (Rev 1:8) in his body of flesh (Jn 6:51), proliferating righteousness (Mt 3:15-17, 27:17-44) by not cursing God but by asking the question that magnified his belief in God, his own holiness, & his love for the world.-Jn 3:14-16

On the cross, Jesus perfected grace (Eph 2:8-9), faith (Heb 12:1-2), hope (Heb 6:17-20), love (Mk 12:29-31), and reason (Jn 10:17-18) under the most egregious circumstances glorifying God who glorified his Son by giving him the ultimate revelation (Mt 24:36, Rom 3:3-4) thus answering his prayer in Jn 17:1.

“It is finished”.-Jn 19:30

“Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit!”-Lk 23:46

In Mt 16:28 & 24:34, Jesus had declared, “Truly I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.” and “Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all these things take place.”

Jesus anticipated God’s revelation to him based on Amos 3:7 & Rev 19:10 that in part states, “The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” for “… upbuilding, encouragement, & consolation.”-I Cor 14:3 “No one has ever seen God; the only Son who is in the bosom of the Father, he as made him known.”-Jn 1:18

Thus, on the cross, Jesus the Christ completed God’s Divine Imperative (Gen 1:26), God’s Great Salvation (Heb 2:1-4, 2:9-10), God’s Eternal Constant, (Jn 17:26) becoming God’s New Creation (Lk 24:39). “While we were yet helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.”-Rom 5:6 “Great indeed, we confess is the mystery of our religion (RSV) or godliness (KJV) . . . .”-I Tim 3:16a
