Mayor makes St. C. resident proud

Dear Editor, Since I am a widow and recent empty nester, I decided to host a foreign exchange student. I got a girl named Sophia from Germany who will attend St. Clairsville High School. I took her to meet our mayor. She told her that she was also German and spoke German to her. She made her feel very welcome to our city. We are so lucky to have a mayor that cares so much for the people she serves. So I hope everyone tells her what a great job she is doing whenever you see her out and about with Sammy. She makes St. Clairsville the place you want to live and visit, even from ...

Reader refutes letter on liberalism

Dear Editor, In reference to the letter of Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, “Liberalism a dead end street:” “For such a rebuke as this is just like the bites of a lecherous person it tickles and provokes. “Man’s most valuable trait is a judicious sense of what not to believe.” — Plutarch Greek philosopher (46-120) Gene Campbell Bridgeport

Unsigned letter was cowardly response

Dear Editor, I’m responding to an unsigned, personal letter that I received recently in the mail, bashing my “letters to the editor” and attacking me personally. It’s a sad day, that in today’s world we are unable to agree to disagree and that this person would feel they were so right about their opinion that the would find it necessary to write an unsigned letter attacking me personally? It definitely shows an unwillingness to accept or even consider another person’s opinion or point of view that differs from others’ letters or their own? At least what this person ...

Loneliness

Dear Editor, From the beginning, God purposed Man (men & women) to be a part of the Godhead—“Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.”-Gen 1:26 “Loneliness” until that was realized (Jn 14:18-23, 17:17-24, RSV) is an apt description evident when the sorrowful God sought Adam & Eve in the Garden of Eden.-Gen 3:9-13 “Loneliness” is a profound part of experience revealed in the amazing humility ...

Reevaluating Utopias

Dear Editor, World literature is full of portrayals of Utopias. Each author depicted what he imagined to be unique about each phantasmagorical land. The Emerald Tablets depict a technologically advanced culture on Atlantis. There is a short section in Genesis where Eden was the ideal society. In Exodus, we are presented with documentation of our ET overlords helping humanity to spiritually evolve. There is Sir Thomas More’s Utopia from the Middle Ages that emphasizes merit. During the Elizabethan era, Francis Bacon gave us the educated population of The New Atlantis. We have an ...

Supporting Justice Sharon Kennedy

Dear Editor, As we begin to vote in the General Election this November, there is a candidate for Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court that exemplifies what it means to be a public servant and a true leader. Justice Sharon Kennedy is that candidate. Justice Kennedy has served on the Ohio Supreme Court since December 2012. During her tenure on the court, Justice Kennedy has decided cases based on the Constitution and not political views or personal feelings. Kennedy believes in judicial restraint and decides what is necessary to resolve the legal issues in the cases before the court. ...
