Brace yourselves

Dear Editor, Like “Old Man River” would say about President Trump, “what you see is what you get.’ He didn’t pretend to be something he wasn’t, you knew exactly where he stood on everything and how he felt about it, no pretense. Now President Biden on the other hand, you have no idea from day to day or whether he even knows? All of the young and old die-hard Democrats need to wake up. As a lifelong Democrat, I woke up to the fact that the Democrats of today are not the same Democrats of old. I am 78, soon to be 79, and I have never seen our country in such bad shape ...

News that’s hard to swallow

Dear Editor, As shelves slowly go bare, prices fly high, and the nation is being invaded, Americans are fed a five course, 5 star feast of the horrors of “January 6, 2021.” A day compared to the Civil War, Pearl Harbor and the 9/11 attacks. Last evening (the first day of summer), while surfing of news channels, I hurried and briefly consumed (gulped), a double big whopper with special extra sauces that was being served by the “Main Stream Media.” Every channel (less Fox News) was still serving “Insurrection” and cannot seem to fill my cup without overflowing! I was ...

Thanks for support

Dear Editor, I am writing to thank everyone for the support for the Taste of the Valley this year. This is the Rotary Club of St. Clairsville’s major annual fundraiser and we were grateful to be able to host it on June 2nd. For the second year in a row, we held the event at the Capstone Soccer Complex. By all accounts, the crowd of over 400 enjoyed the festive atmosphere. The restaurants, of course, are the centerpiece of the event and we enjoyed food from 17 wonderful places. We especially appreciate the restaurant owners, who, during a very difficult year, still provided delicious ...

Rights of Citizens

Dear Editor, I recently read a Letter to the Editor in which the writer insisted that the rights granted to the people of the United States were given by God and that these God-given rights could not be taken away from us. I prefer to give credit to people such as George Washington who led the troops to defeat the British, to Thomas Jefferson who wrote the Declaration of Independence, and to James Madison, the writer of the Bill of Rights. Without our Constitution and Bill of Rights, we have no guaranteed rights. If our rights are given by God, what about the rights of the black ...

Stand against evil

Dear Editor, How far do the people of America have to be pushed before they realize that we have a real and dangerous morality problem in this country.? Who in their right mind drags their children to a gay bar to celebrate “drag your child to brunch” to teach them how to put dollar bills in a grown man’s underwear or take them to a Pride parade so they can learn about “kink?” Actually, when you think about this, the people who practice these things aren’t as responsible as those who encourage it. What parent in their right mind exposes their child to this and ...

Compensate disabled veterans

Dear Editor, Our disabled veterans are grossly under compensated. They’ve been asking various Congresses and Administrations for fair and adequate compensation since the end of WWI in November 1918, 103 years ago. In 2022 a totally disabled veteran with no dependents is compensated at the ridiculous rate of $39,984.72 annually. The National Average Wage Index (NAWI) for 2020 was $55,628.60 per annum and the median income for 2020 was $67,521. The per capita GDP in 2020 was $63,416.00, among the highest in the world. They are only compensated for projected lost wages and not ...
