Dear Editor, On Sunday, April 24, 2022, Jerry’s Walk — Illuminating Suicide Awareness held its sixth annual suicide prevention Walk in St. Clairsville. The event is an opportunity to encourage an open conversation around suicide with a goal of removing the stigma attached to what is truly a public health crisis. That stigma results in silence that tragically causes so many who are suffering to avoid seeking the help they need and deserve. Dear Editor, As usual, The Times Leader “Opinion” page contributor Greg Kozera had a great article “Celebrating Earth Day Success.” The technologies explained are wonderful. The theme of the message (to me) is: let us use sensibilities on our path to a greener earth. Simple things like, quickly help end the deadly, dirty, smoky war with Russia’s stealing of a giant “bread basket” of the earth (Ukraine) and beyond. But few sectors have been as hard hit, or face a longer road to recovery, than the travel agency industry. And still, government restrictions, such as inbound testing rules, are further delaying our industry’s recovery and creating roadblocks for travelers. Dear Editor, The United Mine Workers of America recently held a memorial service at the Willow Grove Mine site in Neffs, Ohio, to honor 72 miners who lost their lives in an explosion on March 16, 1940. On behalf of the UMWA I would like to extend my sincerest appreciation to all who supported us in making the event possible. We also want to thank Ed DiOrio of WTOV-TV news and Ashley Kaiser of WTRF-TV news for covering the service and giving those who were unable to attend a way to remember what happened that tragic day.
