Clarke wins senior tourney title in Tuscarawas Co.
Dave Clarke has put together quite the area golf resume.
He’s a multiple-time Belmont Hills Country Club Champion and has fared quite well in Ohio Valley Golf Association events.
He added another chapter last weekend when he claimed the Zoar Memorial Amateur Championship Senior Division title at the Zoar Village Golf Course in Dover.
Clarke finished with a score of 154 in the multiple-day event. He catapulted himself to the top of the leaderboard with a final round score of 72, which was even and 10 shots better than he shot in the opening round.
Clarke’s score was three shots better than his nearest competitor, who was Jeff Sparks from Cincinnati.
In the medal division, Tyler Maranville, who played collegiately at Tiffin, prevailed with a score of 143. He shot an even par round of 72 in the final round to hold off Aaron Crewse of North Canton for the win.
TOUCHING TRIBUTE
John Wilson was very active in the Ohio Valley in promoting junior golf. He used to supply plenty of information to Bubba Kapral when he began penning this golf piece many years ago.
Unfortunately, Wilson died last year, but his memory in area golf hasn’t.
Last week, The John Marshall golf team began rebuilding the fifth tee at Wheeling Park Golf Course. Wilson used to care for the hole and the Monarchs decided they wanted to pay homage to him and try their best to make the hole as nice as it once way.
Many times people have scrambles or benefits to honor someone’s memory, but what the Monarchs are doing is different and well received. Now, everyone who plays Wheeling Park Golf Course will remember Wilson’s memory.
It was a very touching tribute for an especially good man.
Kudos to John Marshall’s golf team for making it happen.
