Flushing Masonic Lodge Scramble winners named

The annual Flushing Masonic Lodge Scholarship scramble was held last month at Cadiz Country Club.

The winning team was comprised of Shawn Hervey, Tom Hervey, Steve Stickles and Joe Myers.

The runner-up prize went to Wally Chlon, Andrew Chlon, Todd Snedeker and Johnathan Kreiter.

Third place was captured by Ron Tweedy, Brian Dowdle, Chad Capers and Rich Tweedy.

The skilled prizes were won by Joe Kreiter (long drive on No. 5), Andrew Chlon (long drive on No. 18) and Dan Auber (longest putt no No. 12).

Doan Ford of Morristown sponsored all of the hole-in-one prizes.

The lodge also announced its scholarship recipients for the Class of 2015. Those receiving the award from Harrison Central are Maya Shaaban, Nicholas Freese and Ashlyn Barnhart. The Union Local recipients are Adraina Runevitch and Zach Grimes.

WHEELING PARK GOLF LEAGUE

The Undo’s event was held last Sunday as an 18-hole event.

Robbie Evans won the medal division with a round of 69, while Roger Kupfer was second with a 69. Art Lightner finished third with a 70. Bruno DeCrease finished with a 70 for fourth and Gary Mercer was fifth with a 70.

Ryan Richmond was the champion of the handicap with a round of 63. Mike Crow was second with a 63. Mike DeSantis (65) was third and Bill Caldwell (65) was fourth.

John Bryan (65), Dave Stauver (65) and Josh Foose (65) finished tied for fifth.

The Hole ‘N Run event was held on May 27. The George Melnik won the medal division with a round of 31. David Coram finished with a 32 to take the runner-up medal spot.

Third place went to Bruno DeCrease with a 35. Doug Miller was fourth with a 37. Jim Ennis, Larry Goodnight, Chris Bommer and Art Lightner finished tied for fifth with a 38.

In the handicap scoring, Bob Green finished with a 30 to prevail. Bob Hicks was second with a 32. Duane Lescalet finished with 33 for third, while Dick Moore was fourth with a 33. Josh Foose and Rick Diefenbaugh tied for fifth with a 34.

WHEELING COUNTRY CLUB

The Pro Sweeps event was held last Sunday, utilizing a two-man blind draw, better ball of pair scoring system.

The championship on the front was a tie between G. Caro and S. Gorczyca along with Jar. Jorden and S. Seabright. Both teams posted rounds of 30.

On the back side of the course, Mike Lei and Shishir Shah prevailed with a 27. D. Molnar and S. Wharton were second with a 30.

Leo and Shah were the overall winners with a round of 58. Jar. Jorden and S. Seabright finished second.

BELMONT HILLS JUNIOR

TOURNAMENT

The annual junior tournament will be held on Monday, July 27 at Belmont Hills Country Club. The event will feature divisions for boys and girls, including ages 17-18, 15-16 and 13-14 for boys; 16-18 and 13-15 for girls. The event will begin at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start.

The top three finishers in each age group, for boys and girls, will receive an award. The entry fee is $30 with checks being made payable to Barnesville Golf Parents.

Lunch will be provided for all tournament contestants and available for purchase for all spectators. Carts will be available for spectators, but they must remain on the cart path.

BELMONT HILLS

JUNIOR CLINICS

A chance for area youth to improve their golf games will begin on June 2 and run throghout the month at Belmont Hills Country Club during it’s annual junior golf clinics.

The dates are as follows: June 9, 10, 16, 17, 22, 24 and 29. The cost is $125 for members and $150 for non members. Class times will be assigned on Sunday, May 31.

UPCOMING SCRAMBLES

  • THE INAUGURAL St. John Central Fighting Irish Football Golf Scamble will be held on Saturday, July 11 at Fairway River Links. The event will begin with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. and registration begins at 6:15 a.m.

The entry fee is $260 per team or $65 per person, which includes golf, cart, door prizes, drink tickets, hamburgers and hot dogs at the turn as well as a rigatoni and sausage meal following the scramble. There will also be a 50-50 raffle.

Players must register as a foursome.

  • The Bellaire Touchdown Club will be sponsoring its ninth annual golf outing on Saturday, June 27 at Fairway River Links. The entry fee is $60 per person or $240.00 per team of four.   • The Tom Donahue Memorial Classic Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, July 11 at Horseshoe Bend Golf Course in Armstrong Mills. The entry fee is $50 per player or $200 per team and that must be paid by July 4. The fee includes golf, cart, food, refreshments, prizes and door prizes. The event will be a four-person, best-ball event. There will be an optional skins game for $5. Registration is from 8-9 a.m. and the event will begin at 9. There is a limit of 72 golfers.   • THE 16TH annual Sons of Italy Bellaire Lodge #754 is holding its annual scramble to benefit Alzheimers & Cooley’s Anemia Charities on Monday, June 8 at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Course. The event will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The entry feet for the event is $200 per team, which includes golf, cart, refreshments and dinner after the round.   • THE OHIO VALLEY Wrestling Officials Association will hold its golf scramble on Saturday, Aug. 8 at Cadiz Country Club. The event will begin at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. The cost is $220 for a four-person team and that includes golf, cart, prizes, skins game and dinner. There will be special skill prizes for long drive, longest putt and closest to the pin. There are sponsorship opportunities available, too. There are $50 hole sponsors or $500 for a major sponsor, which includes a team.   • The fifth annual Amanda Rosepapa Memorial Foundation golf scramble is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1.

The event will be a four-person scramble at Horseshoe Bend Golf Course in Armstrong Mills and the entry fee is $200 per team. The cost includes golf, cart, lunch and beverages. There will be prizes for longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin.

The proceeds of the event will benefit the OVAC softball scholarship and go toward starting a “second chance fund” for nursing students at Belmont College.
