Barnesville Auxiliary Scramble winners announced
The 13th annual Barnesville Auxiliary Golf Scramble was held at Belmont Hills Country Club with 25 teams taking part in the event.
The first-place gross went to the team of Ryan Jewell, James Carson, Kevin Donahie and Dave Frey with a score of 53. Four shots back was the team of Steve Mercer, Dan Auber, Jack Carpenter and Dave Murphy.
In the net scoring, the team of Joe Jeffries, John Jeffries, Dr. Shaun Roe and Mike Gittings prevailed with a score of 52. The runner-up net score was 53. It was posted by John Timko, Dave Diosi, Donnie Sheller and Pat Massey.
The skill prize winners were as follows: closest to the pin on #15, Dr. Roe; longest putt on #13, Jay Grob; longest drive on #6, Dave Hissom; women’s longest drive on #18, Rocky McGee.
The team putting contest was won by the team of Timko, Diosi, Sheller and Massey with a distance of 77 inches.
The winners of the skins competition were Jewell, Carson, Donahie and Frey on number 12. On number 17, the team of Mark Cisar, Kevin Abel, Michelle Abel and Richard Merritt recorded a skin.
WHEELING PARK GOLF CLUB
The Larry Loew Memorial event was held last Sunday. Roger Kupfer prevailed by five shots thanks to a round of 64. Jim Ennis was second. Mike Neal finished third with a 72. Bruno DeCrease had a 73 for fourth. Bob Green and Rich Colley both posted a round of 75 to tie for fifth.
In the handicap scoring, Chris Bommer posted a round of 63. Larry Goodnight had a 65 to finish second. Jerry Daugherty had a 67 for third place, while Paul Alig had a 67 for fourth. Russ Travis, Bill Caldwell, Dave Stauver and Shawn Schwertfeger all tied for fifth with a 68.
The 19th hole Allen Kage Memorial event was held on Aug. 5 with Dave Scollick posting a 34. Bob Green was second with a 34, while Kupfer was third with a 35. Art Lightner was fourth with a 36. George Melnik finished with a 36.
Josh Foose won the handicap scoring portion of the event with a round of 30. Schwertfeger shot a round of 31. Robbie Evans was third with a 33, while Tony Coppa and Orie Robinson were fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Butch Lipinski and Walt Goszytla Memorial was held on Aug. 6 with Green prevailing with a round of 33. That was three shots better than Evans and four clear of Gary Mercer. John Bryan and Ted Koski were fourth and fifth with 42 and 44, respectively.
Jim Ennis captured the handicap scoring portion of the event with a round of 32. Joe Kosar shot a 32 to finish second. Rick Diefenbaugh also had a 32, while Bob Hoffman had a 33.
ACES
JAKE FULLERTON, of Wheeling, recorded an ace on the 260-yard 17th hole at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Course. He used a 3-wood for his feat, which was witnessed by Chris Kiedaish, Gary Kiedaish and Chuck Dedo.
RON HELMS of Moundsville recorded an ace at BecWood Hills Golf Course on Aug. 12. He used a 9-iron to ace the 125-yard par 3 16th hole. His shot was witnessed by Bradley Hudson and Ronald Kittle of Moundsville.
SENECAVILLE SENIOR LEAGUE
The closest to the pins for Aug. 17’s action were recorded by Thom Shipe, Steve McJessey and Jim Williams. The low net, of 33, was shared by Saltz and Roe along with Hannahs and Hannahs. The latter had the low gross at 33.

- THE INAUGURAL St. C. Junior Sports Scramble will be held at Belmont Hills Country Club on Saturday, Aug. 29 with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The entry fee is $100 per player and that includes mulligans and a skins game. The cost includes an Outback catered dinner and beverages on the course during the round. - THE 2nd annual Dominick Nardo Golf Scramble will be held on Aug. 22 at Belmont Hills Country Club.
The event will have a shotgun start at 9 a.m. and the entry fee is $500 per team. Proceeds from the event go toward scholarships to be presented to St. Clairsville High School students in memory of Nardo.
Those participating in the tournament receive golf, cart, dinner after the round a t-shirt. Hole sponsors are also available for the event. For more information, please contact Mike Drake at 740-310-1271.
- THE CAMPAIGN for Moving Healthcare Forward will hold a golf scramble at Belmont Hills Country Club on Thursday, Sept. 3 with a shotgun start slated for noon. The event will be a four-person scramble and include skill contests.
Sponsorships are availble for the event and there are four levels, all of which include a team entry in the field.

- The Bellaire Touchdown Club will be sponsoring its ninth annual golf outing on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Fairway River Links.
The entry fee is $60 per person or $240 per team of four. The cost includes cart, lunch and beverages during the scramble and a dinner afterwards.
