Lewicki inks pro hockey contract

MOUNDSVILLE — Dreams can come true. Kristin Lewicki is proof positive. Her longtime goal of playing professional hockey has come to fruition. The John Marshall grad has signed a professional contract with the Buffalo Beauts of the National Women’s Hockey League. The pro pact comes on the heels of a magnificent collegiate career for the diminutive ice star. Lewicki re-wrote the Adrian (Mich.) College record books as well as a host of Division III marks. WEIRTON -- Joanna Bernabei-McNamee continues to land impressive honors as she ascends the collegiate coaching ladder. The Weirton Madonna product -- now head women's basketball coach at the University at Albany -- has been named as the 2017 Women's Division I Coach of the Year by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York, Inc. It was Bernabei-McNamee's first year at the America East Conference school, and what a season it was. She led the Great Danes to 21 wins, pocketing the America East title along the way. The Fourth of July means America’s independence and fireworks. At the Belmont Hills Country Club, it also means the annual Fred and Mary Jo Mehlman Independence Day Tournament. A large field of 13 teams took part in the event, which used a 2 net, best ball of 4 scoring system. MOUNDSVILLE — It just keeps getting better and better for Kristin Lewicki. The John Marshall High product authored a remarkable four-year hockey career at Adrian College in Michigan, capped by being named national player of the year this past season. Apicella garners South Carolina coaching honors

SHADYSIDE — Baseball has been a big part of Matt Apicella’s life, first as a standout player and now as a standout coach. Apicella was an all-state player for Shadyside High in 1994. His sparkling prep baseball career proved a springboard to a fine diamond career at Muskingum University.
