Union Local boys, Barnesville girls take home titles at Shamrock Relays

BARNESVILLE — Union Local’s girls and Barnesville’s boys were the big winners Saturday as the area track and field regular season wrapped up with the 25th annual WesBanco Barnesville Shamrock Relays at Barnesville High School.

The Jets captured seven events in collecting 128 points, outdistancing the host Shamrocks’ A squad by 23. Harrison Central was third with 73 points, followed by Buckeye Local (72), St. Clairsville (50), Shenandoah (47), Caldwell (44), Bellaire (14), Barnesville B (8), Beallsville (7) and East Richland Christian (6).

Barnesville claimed the boys’ crown with 104 points, with St. Clairsville second with 88. Harrison Central was third with 81 points, followed by Caldwell (59), Buckeye Local (55), Union Local (50), Shenandoah (44), East Richland Christian (22), Bellaire (12), Beallsville (7) and Barnesville B (3).

The final event of the day — the boys’ 4×4 — wasn’t staged due to lightning.

The event offered 11 schools the final chance to prepare for district competition, which commences at three sites this week — West Holmes (Division 2), Meadowbrook (Division II) and St. Clairsville (Division III).

Hannah Kemp was again a big scorer for the Jets, claiming individual crowns in the 1,600- (5:59.95) and 3,200-meter (12:38.8) runs. Allison Loase was an individual winner in the pole vault (10-0), while Casey Kildow was victorious in the 800 (2:35.64).

Kildow was also part of three winning relay squads for the Jets in the 800 with Rylee Magnani, Briana Bumgardner and Baylee Magnani (1:55.25); the 1, 600 with Bumgardner, Rylee Magnani and Sutherlynd Butler (4:36.72) and the 3,200 with Bumgardner, Butler and Kemp (10:48.49).

Skylar Langford had three individual triumphs for Buckeye Local and was part of a victorious relay team.

Langford claimed the 100 (12.91), 200 (28.14) and long jump (15-07) and was part of the winning 400-meter relay foursome with Kya DeMeter, Rachel Moore and Jada Langford (54.27).

St. Clairsville posted three wins on the girls’ side — Kadence Shaw in the 100 hurdles (17.87), Macie Hothem in the 300 hurdles (52.01) and Paige McGlothlin in the high jump (5-0).

Barnesville’s shuttle hurdle team of Heaven Farnsworth, Alana Trigg, Harlie Stewart and Alle Sinisgalli won in 1:14.76, while Samantha Drake took the shot with a toss of 36-07.5.

Abbi Kelley (400, 1:07.1) and Thea Haney (disc, 107-11) won for Harrison Central.

Sam Wehr was a double winner for Barnesville’s boys, winning the 1,600 and 3,200 in 4:56.8 and 11:01.4, respectively.

The Shamrocks other victories came in relays. Trey Warner, Ryan Lucas, Harley Raines and Trey Ciroli teammed to win the 800 (1:38.2). Lucas Rogers, Ryan Lucas, Wehr and Justin Lucas won the 3,200 (8:55.1), while the foursome of Braydn Strous, Levi Lucas, Remmy Boyd and Logan Crumbaker claimed the shuttle hurdles (1:06.23).

St. Clairsville received victories from Christian Oberdick in the 110 (15.4) and 300 (42.4) hurdles and Victor Bowers in the pole vault (10-06.

Harrison Central registered three individual winners — Eric Leech (400, 51.7), Sam McClelland (800, 2:02.2) and Tyler West (high jump, 6-02).

Luke Menges was a twin victor for Union Local, claiming the 100 (11.6) and 200 (22.9).

Bellaire’s Cole LaRoche won the shot (53-04.5). Buckeye Local won the 400 relay (Trey Burgess, Josh Dulesky, Jacob Zanes, Kadin Weaver, 46.9) and Shenandoah’s Shakur Sebring won the long jump (19-9).
