Shadyside spikers sweep Bellaire

AT BELLAIRE, Shadyside opened the season with a sweep of Bellaire by scores of 25-10, 25-20 and 25-8.

The Tigers were led by sophomore Gentry Brown, who had nine kills, four aces and 10 digs. Senior Baylee Wach added five kills, three assists and two blocks, while Kylie Jo Baker added four kills and an ace. Caroline Mercer contributed 17 assists, five aces and two digs.

The Big Reds were led on the stat sheet by Jayden Lowe’s three kills and seven digs. Bryanna Beckett had three kills, 11 assists and six digs. Georgia Schybal added three aces, while Jenna Miller had 10 digs.

Barnesville sweeps Bridgeport

AT BARNESVILLE, the Shamrocks made it two wins in as many outings with a 25-12, 25-10, 25-18 sweep of Bridgeport.

The Shamrocks were led by senior Rylee Stephens, who had 12 kills. Darby Jones added 12 kills and junior Keirsten Adams added 11.Stephens also had seven aces, while Ava McFarland notched 19 points. Stephens blocked two hits and Kynlie Cline added nine digs.

Bridgeport received six points, an ace and four digs from Kaylee Bain. Emmi Felton had seven digs, a block and two kills, while Markiee McCormick added four points, four digs and three assists.

Indian Creek sweeps Buckeye

AT CONNORVILLE, Indian Creek quickly swept the homesteading Panthers by scores of 25-14, 25-6 and 25-7.

The Panthers (0-1) were led by Landyn Walker, who had two aces and three kills. Alexa William added nine assists and two kills. Regan Hunter added two kills and two blocks and Kassidy George had 15 digs.

For Indian Creek (1-0), Taylor Jones led with four kills, a pair of blocks, three digs and three aces. Gracie Francis tallied five kills and four blocks. Carley Penner added three digs, two aces, one kill, a block and a dozen assists.

The Redskins travel to Carrollton on Thursday.

Wellsville upends Edison

WELLSVILLE — The Edison volleyball team fell to Wellsville, 25-13, 25-12, 25-15 on Monday.

Gracie Phillips led the Wildcats (0-2) with eight points and 13 digs. Corinne Freeman contributed four kills and seven blocks. Savanna Ankrom had three points and three kills, while Karissa Speedy added six assists.

Edison also lost the jayvee contest, 25-18, 25-21.

Steubenville falls to East Liverpool

STEUBENVILLE — The Big Red volleyball team lost its season opener to East Liverpool, 25-20, 26-24, 25-19, on Monday

Anna Taylor led Steubenville with 13 points, eight aces, seven kills and eight digs. Emily Allen had six points, one ace and 16 assists. Kiera O’Brien added four points, an ace and four kills.

Big Red is back in action today, hosting Catholic Central.

GOLF

Park Wins Callaway Event

WHEELING– Wheeling Park shot a 234 as a team to claim first place in the Callaway Junior Tour High School Series at the Jones Course on Monday.

Leading the charge for the Patriots was senior Noah Seivertson, who earned co-medalist honors with a 75.

Gavin Goodrich added a 79 and Owen Leary carded an 80 for Park.

Brooke’s Ryan Bilby also turned in a 75 for co-medalist honors.

Wheeling Central sophomore Justin Doerr was third at 76 and Linsly’s Dylan Dunlevy fired a 78.

St. Clairsville wins at BecWood

AT BECWOOD, the Red Devils fired a round of 180, which was 11 shots better than Monroe Central for four OVGL victories Monday afternoon.

Other teams taking part included Martins Ferry (194), Union Local (199) and Magnolia (202).

Martins Ferry senior Luke Krol finished with a round of 40 for medalist honors. St. Clairsville’s Saul Crist and UL’s Beezer Porter were runner-up medalist and a shot back.

Harrison trips Toronto

AT CADIZ, Harrison Central posted a 188 to topple Toronto by 13 shots Monday afternoon at Cadiz Country Club.

Huskies senior Sam Santille was the medalist with a round of 42. Toronto was led by Hunter Keenan’s 44.

SCC defeats Weir

STEUBENVILLE — The Catholic Central golf team bested Weir High, 171-243, on Monday at the Steubenville Country Club.

The Crusaders’ Cole Tegano was the medalist with a 33. Following him were Brenda Schaefer with a 39, Johnny O’Karma with a 49 and Olivia Gibas with a 50.

For the Red Riders, Jake Bostaph led with a 48. Jade Smith carded a 52, Joey Bostaph 59 and Zion Spencer 84.
