River girls remain undefeated

BEAVERTON – River remained unbeaten Monday night in girls’ high school basketball action with a 48-42 win over downstream rival Frontier.

The Lady Pilots (2-0) were led by 5-8 senior Kelsey Harlan’s 21 points and six steals, while 5-9 junior Kaylee Hagan corralled 10 of River’s 29 rebounds and added seven points.

Coach Rick Isaly’s club received big contributions from sophomore Zoey Fox (nine points) and freshman guard Maci Isaly (eight points).

Frontier ‘s Grace Knowlton led the Lady Cougars (2-1) with 13, including four 3-pointers, while Morgan Haught and Kelsey Dye added 11 and eight points, respectively.

The Lady Pilots return to the R.L. Potts gym Saturday for an 11 a.m. clash with Martins Ferry.

Monroe Central 61, Barnesville 26

WOODSFIELD — The Seminoles (3-1) used a balanced scoring attack to roll past the visiting Shamrocks.

Nine different players scored for Monroe Central, led by Jacey English with 14. Mayze Emery added 11 and Riley Bettinger 10, while Jadyn Miller finished with nine and Brylee McFrederick eight.

Miller completed her all-around game with six assists and a like number of steals. Bettinger had half-a-dozen rebounds.

Abigail Johnson led Barnesville with seven points. Ellie Thompson and Ava McFarland had six each.

Shenandoah 48, Shadyside 19

SARAHSVILLE — The Zeps took control early and never looked back in defeating the visiting Tigers.

Macy Hendershot scored nine points and Kaci Tosaros added eight as just three players scored for Shadyside.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Monroe Central 60, Harrison Central 26

CADIZ — Emery scored 16 points while English and Bettinger had 15 each as the Seminoles rolled past the host Huskies.

Kennedy Dunlap led Harrison Central with eight.

Caldwell 60, Shadyside 30

CALDWELL — Tsoras had six points for the Tigers in their loss to the Redskins.

SWIMMING

May Wins Twice at Dover

DOVER — St. Clairsville’s Zach May won the 50-yard freestyle (22.5) and the 100-yard freestyle (48.92) at the Dover Invitational.

The Red Devils placed third with 143 points. The girls also took third with 129.
