Three players to receive all-state honors

COLUMBUS — Three Ohio Valley high school football players have received first team all-state honors in their respective divisions as voted on by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.

The Division VI and Division VII teams were announced on Monday. On Tuesday, the Division IV and V All-Ohio teams will be announced, followed by the Division II and III teams on Wednesday. The Division I All-Ohio team will be announced Thursday.

Division VI

Locally, Martins Ferry defensive end Alex Reese was named to the Division VI first team. The 6-6, 230-pound junior was a menace from his terminal spot. He led the Purple Riders with 86 tackles, 13 quarterback sacks, a whopping 34 tackles for lost yardage and caused three fumbles, recovering two of them.

Three players earned second team honors as Martins Ferry tailback Tev’n Williams selected on the offensive side. Defensively, Bellaire’s senior duo of linebacker Logan Edgar and defensive back Mac Mac Pettigrew were also selected.

Receiving honorable mention status were Martins Ferry senior offensive lineman Shayden Fogle and Bellaire senior offensive lineman Joey Nixon, along with Martins Ferry senior linebacker Andrew Leiffer and Bellaire sophomore linebacker Graham Campbell.

Both Martins Ferry and Bellaire advanced to the playoffs, but both fell in the first round.

In Division VII, Steubenville Central’s Brayden Rauch and Toronto’s Aiden Filby received first-team honors at linebacker and defensive end, respectively.

Rauch, a 5-11, 205-pound senior, led the Crusaders with 126 tackles, six quarterback sacks, two interceptions and a fumble recovery as they went 10-0 before falling in the first round of the playoffs.

Filby, a 6-2, 172-pound junior, was a standout defensive back for the Red Knights, who also fell in the first round of the playoffs. He made 53 tackles, picked off five passes and returned two of them for touchdowns. He broke up 17 passes.

The second team included eight local products.

Monroe Central senior quarterback Tucker Howell and River senior quarterback Kaleb Isaly headlined the squad. They were joined by a pair of Toronto seniors in running back Dom Bouscher and offensive lineman Cayden Benton; Steubenville Central junior defensive lineman Peyton Rauch; Shadyside senior linebacker Cole Micker; Bridgeport senior defensive back Michael Marshall; and Steubenville Central senior punter Daniel Bolster.

Beallsville senior linebacker James Palmer was a third-team selection.

Earning honorable mention were Steubenville Central senior running back BJ Fallon; Toronto junior quarterback Russ Dickinson; River senior running back Kaden Johnson; Toronto junior wide receiver Mason Marchbank; Monroe Central senior wide receiver Carter Knowlton; Toronto senior offensive lineman Cale Chaisson; Steubenville Catholic senior offensive lineman Kody Carver; Toronto sophomore defensive lineman Heath Thomas; Steubenville Catholic defensive lineman Brendan Grimm; Toronto freshman linebacker Drake Bouscher; Monroe Central senior linebacker Dalton Phillips; Toronto defensive back Nolan Dickinson; Steubenville Catholic junior defensive back Tommy Pergi and Shadyside senior defensive back Ben Wach.
