Wheeling Central wins Boggs tournament with no-hitter

KIDWELL — Wheeling Central’s Zayne Rosnick fired a five-inning no-hitter against Tyler Consolidated on Saturday, helping them to a 10-0 win for the Maroon Knights in the championship game of the 8th annual Matt Boggs Wooden Bat Tournament at Tyler Consolidated.

The freshman struck out seven and permitted just one free pass. He also hit a batter and needed just 73 pitches, with 44 being strikes.

The Maroon Knights received two doubles and a pair of RBI from Seth Cover. Rosnick singled twice to knock in two runs and Eli Tucker singled in two. Braxton Billick singled twice, while Kade Koroneos and Luke Tiu each delivered a run-scoring base hit.

Wheeling Central 11, River 1

In semifinal action, Tucker belted a three-run homer to spark a 11-hit Maroon Knights attack. Billick singled and tripled to drive in two runs. Rosnick had an RBI triple. Hunter Mueller knocked in a run with a single and double.

Tyler Consolidated 1,

Madonna 0

Reese Davis tossed a no-hitter at the Blue Dons. He fanned 11 and walked one. He threw 86 pitches, with 56 being strikes.

Owen Westbrook singled in the game’s only run in the bottom of the fourth.

Wheeling Park 12,

Buck-Upshur 1

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Brayden Kupsky, Ryland Robb and Nolan Yanchak all drove in two runs each as the Patriots stopped the Buccaneers in five innings.

Paul McGee and Miles Gorby each singled twice, with McGee plating a run.

Kupsky went the distance on the mound, fanning five, walking one and allowing four hits.

Bridgeport 4,

Wheeling Park 2

Jared Marsh singled and doubled and Nate Simon singled in a run, but the Patriots couldn’t overcome a 4-0 deficit.

Linsly 12, Independence 2

Rocco Paolina struck out two, didn’t walk a batter and spaced out eight hits as the Cadets scored four runs in each of the first, third and fifth innings.

Chris Upton laced three singles and drove in two runs for Linsly. Alex Taylor, Andrew Skadra and Nathan Berhalter all drove in two runs, with Taylor and Skadra each recording a single and double. Jaxon Murray knocked in a run with two singles.

Martins Ferry 7,

Buckeye Local 6

STEUBENVILLE — Colby Kropka drew a bases-loaded walk with no outs in the bottom of the seventh as the Purple Riders completed a 4-0 week.

Mason Redinger went the distance with five Ks and two walks. He gave up five hits.

Luca Shane singled twice, tripled and drove in a run for Martins Ferry. Turner Krol had a single, double and RBI. Ayden Ludolphs singled and doubled.

Brady Kalman and Wyatt Luyster had run-scoring singles for the Panthers.

Paden City 4, Hannan 1

PADEN CITY — The Wildcats rode the 15-strikeout performance of Kayden Myers in downing the Wildcats.

Joey Baker singled in a run for the winners. Brayden Neff had two singles.

Paden City 25, Hannan 1

The Wildcats scored 14 runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back in sweeping the visitors.

Neff and Ashton Little evenly divided eight RBI as both singled twice and doubled.

River 5, Madonna 3

WEIRTON — It was late fireworks Saturday as the Pilots plated four in the sixth inning and survived a three-run outburst by the Blue Dons in the bottom of the seventh to secure a road win.

Carson Makris pitched six and one-third innings,, giving way to Kaden Hunt for the final two outs of the game.

Lucas Dennis and Cody Simon each doubled for River, Dennis driving in one run and Simon driving in two. Dennis stole two bases while Simon swiped one bag.

David Connor pitched five and two-thirds for the Blue Dons, pegged for the loss but striking out six. Connor also drove in a run for Madonna.

Minerva 16, Edison 6

MINERVA — The Lions topped the Wildcats by a 10-run margin Saturday, winning in six innings.

Edison scored five runs in the top of the sixth to more than halve the then-deficit at 10-6, but Minerva came back with an even bigger showing at the plate with six in the bottom of the sixth to put an end to the contest.

Cole Pittman, Kyle Long, Nathan Haught, Bryce Rogers, J.D. Henderson and Chase Freeman each had RBI for Edison.

Wheeling Central 8,

Buckeye Local 0

ELM GROVE — Josie Frizzell struck out nine, walked one and scattered six singles while collecting three singles as the Maroon Knights blanked the visiting Panthers on Ben’s Field at the J.B. Chambers I-470 Complex.

Maddie Miehle singled twice and Erin Maxwell doubled.

Bellaire 5, Martins Ferry 4

STEUBENVILLE — Riley Porter went the distance inside the circle, striking out three and issuing one walk. She gave up eight hits.

Majestique Jackson had two singles and a double for the Big Reds who scored all five runs in the bottom of the third, with only two being earned. Porter also singled twice while Addyson Kovach doubled in a run.

Maddie Lucas single, tripled and drove in a run for the Purple Riders. Danielle Lude singled, doubled and plated a run. Giana Chirpas singled twice and Lacie Zinn drove in two runs with a single. Averie Hughes tripled.

John Marshall 6,

Wheeling Park 5

GLEN DALE — The Monarchs pulled off a close victory over the Patriots on Saturday.

AC Cumberledge picked up the win for John Marshall, pitching the entire game and striking out nine. Delaney Randolph pitched the whole game for Park, only two of the runs against her charged as earned.

Cumberledge, leadoff hitter Masyn Inclan, Kaylee White and Carlee Yoho each tallied RBI for the Monarchs. Inclan thumped a double, John Marshall’s only extra-base hit.
