Fankhouser Shines For Wheeling Park Softball

CLARKSBURG – London Fankhouser had quite a day Friday as Wheeling park swept a pair of high school softball games at Robert C. Byrd High School.

The Patriots sophomore hurled a no-hitter in a 10-0 blanking of the host Eagles. She struck out five and walked two while collecting a single and two doubles that drove in a pair of runs.

In a 15-0, three-inning rout of Lewis County, Fankhouser doubled, homered and knocked in four runs.

Grace Tamburin, Harmony Bittner and Ava Harris all singled and doubled, with Harris driving in two runs. Tamburin and Bittner each had one RBI.

Bittner was the winner in game 2 with a pair of strikeouts. She scattered two singles.

Kylah Cunningham drove in three runs with a single and triple, while Mikayla Alderman also collected a trio of ribbies with a single and double. Brenna Tipton singled in two runs and Kimber Heldreth singled in another.

Wheeling Park scored all 15 runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Martins Ferry 11,

Brooke 0, 5 inn.

WELLSBURG – The Purple Riders (16-1) kept up their torrid play by blanking the Bruins.

Tori Long drove in three runs with a pair of singles and Maddie Lucas doubled and tripled to pace Martins Ferry’s 14-hit attack.

Gracie Lucas knocked in two runs with a pair of doubles. Giana Chirpas singled and doubled to drive in one and Ella Mamone had a two-run single. Kendyl Brandon added two singles.

Monica Tedeschi went the first four innings inside the circle to pick up the win. She struck out three, walked one and spaced out three singles. Mamone worked a perfect fifth, striking out one.

Wheeling Central 13,

Tyler Consolidated 0

KIDWELL – The opportunistic Maroon Knights took advantage of 14 walks and three hit batters in their five-inning rout of the Silver Knights.

Erin Maxwell and Seneca Heller each singled in two runs and Chloe Groome singled in one. Bella Rine had a double.

Katie Jokovich-Palmer spun a six hitter and struck out four.

River 8, Fort Frye 2

SARDIS – The Pilots (12-3) continued their fine season as Ava Wohnhas singled and homered to account for three RBI. Her home run was her 10th of the season, tying the single-season program record. She also struck out nine, didn’t walk a Cadet and scattered four singles.

Alyvia Bayes drove in three runs with a single and double. Mallarie Maddy singled and doubled to chase home a run and Cyla Jeffers had a pair of one-base raps.

Wheeling Park 1

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Patriots trailed 3-1 entering the bottom of the sixth inning when the Indians struck for 11 runs.

Miles Gorby had a single and double as Wheeling Park managed just five hits. Bodie Cox had a run-scoring single in the fifth.

The Patriots went 0-2 on the day as Kolten Whitmire drove in three runs with two singles. Brody Groome doubled and tripled. Jaxon Updegraff had a run-scoring base hit.

Linsly 9,

Pendleton County 4

Tucker Doty singled twice and had a sacrifice fly to drive in four runs as the Cadets prevailed.

Chris Upton singled and doubled while Dom Fato singled twice. Vinny Gorrence had an RBI single and Preston Hartley had a pair of RBI.

Harrison Central 1

CADIZ – For the second time in three days, the Redskins defeated the Huskies, this time on the turf surface at Mazeroski Field inside Sally Buffalo Park.

Indian Creek (10-0) received a complete-game effort from Parker Heath. He struck out five, didn’t walk a batter and scattered seven hits.

Hunter Rusnak singled, doubled and drove in two runs, while Luke McVicker singled, doubled and knocked in one. Logan Wedlake had a run-producing base hit and James Brothers singled thrice.

Cash Meadows singled two times for Harrison Central (9-3). Kolton Mizer had a double.

Shadyside 10, Conotton Valley 7

SHADYSIDE – Trenton Marling knocked in three runs with a single and double as the host Tigers grounded the Rockets on Fleming Field.

Trey Wright drove in two runs with a single and sacrifice fly, while Ryan Collins doubled in a run and Damian Russell had two singles.

Union Local 15, Bellaire 0

MORRISTOWN – Evan Poziviak doubled and homered as the Jets routed the Big Reds.

Trent White singled twice.

Bridgeport 8, Frontier 1

BEAVERTOWN – Conner Nelson fired a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts as the Bulldogs picked up a road win.

Xander Wilson had a three-run double for Bridgeport, while Jaki Threet also drove in a trio of teammates.

Hedgesville 5, John Marshall 3

GLEN DALE – The Monarchs led 3-0 after two innings but the visiting Eagle reeled off the final five runs on Monarch Field.

Mason Markonich singled, doubled and drove in a run for John Marshall. Nicky Clegg singled and doubled, while Hayden Hughes singled twice and knocked in a run. Kayden Knapp also singled home a run.
