West Virginia High Schools Join Ohio On The Gridiron

While Ohio has one week in the books already, West Virginia kicks off the high school football season tonight when Weir heads north on W.Va. 2 to meet Hancock County rival Oak Glen at the Field of Dreams Complex in New Manchester. Both schools have new head coaches as Chris Hill takes over the Red Riders reins while Derrick Stickles returns to his alma mater. YORKVILLE – On Friday, the Buckeye Local Football Alumni will recognize two who have stood out in Buckeye Local football history for their efforts on the gridiron. Nathan Schaal, a 2009 Buckeye Local graduate; and the late Dick Thurnes, coach for the former Buckeye South High School, will be the next to be inducted to the alumni group’s Ring of Honor at a ceremony to be held at 6:30 p.m. before the Panthers’ home game against River High School.
