MORGANTOWN — The fullback is back for West Virginia football. The days of a player who has the size of a tight end but can carry the ball like a running back will be displayed on Mountaineer Field once again. Rich Rodriguez turned some heads when he picked up fullback Kayden Luke from Arizona in the transfer portal. Luke is completely bald in his WVU football photo — he had a full head of hair at Arizona — and comes in at 251 pounds and 5-foot-11. WHEELING – Fifty years ago West Virginia defeated Ohio in the 30th annual OVAC Rudy Mumley All Star Football Game, 33-20, at Wheeling Island Stadium. Saturday night, 26 players and coaches who participated in that contest will be recognized during the first quarter of the 80th annual mid-summer classic. Both head coaches are deceased. St. Clairsville Falls Into Region 4 Loser’s Bracket

MARIETTA – One bad inning was all it took to send St. Clairsville Post 159 into the loser’s bracket of the American Legion Baseball Region 4 Tournament Thursday night. Post 159 allowed seven runs in the bottom of the fourth, erasing a 1-0 lead, to Cambridge/Belle Valley Post 84/641 during a 8-4 doubling up at Marietta College’s Pioneer Park. A pair of Wheeling 10 year-olds will highlight the 5th annual Nick and Alice Gaudino Memorial golf tournament to be held at the Bloch Memorial Course at Wheeling Park. The event was rescheduled to Monday, July 20 at noon due to atmospheric conditions in the Wheeling area. The fifth-graders, who are also good friends as well as competitors, will highlight the event.
