ARTSLINK WILL present a free concert by WSO on the GO, featuring the Wheeling Symphony Woodwind Quintet at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Lincoln Theater in downtown New Martinsville. SUNDAY, OCT. 6, a Family Service will be held at 10 a.m. in the Ickes Family Life Center, 67880 Friends Church Road, St. Clairsville, where Pastor Aaron Szloboda will share from Luke 20, then attendees will take World Communion together. (One service only, nursery care provided, no children, youth, or adult classes). Afterward, the East Richland Friends Church Fall Fest begins. It takes place noon to 4 p.m. in the IFLC parking lot with free activities throughout the day — Hay rides, pumpkin catapult and painting, cornhole tournament, pie eating contest, games and activities for all ages, inflatables for children, hot dogs, caramel apples, cotton candy and more. THE WARREN Consolidated High School Class of 1964 will hold a reunion at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 in shelter No. 3 at the Warren Township Park.
THE OCTOBER meeting of the United Steelworkers S.O.A.R. Chapter 23-9 will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the United Steelworkers Hall in Martins Ferry. There will be nominations for officers of the chapter at this meeting. An insurance representative will also be available to answer any questions. Light refreshments will be served after the meeting.
THE 18TH Annual Neighbors Helping Neighbors Food Drive will take place Oct. 1- Nov. 30. Non-perishable items will be accepted and will be distributed to local agencies. THE THIRD Annual TBS Chili Cookoff will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 6 at Warren Township Park, 400 Williams St., Tiltonsville. An outdoor church service will be at 11 a.m. Music by Ron Retzer Trio. Bring a lawn chair. There will be games for kids, face painting, photo booth, bake sale, 50/50, $250 gift card raffle and an auction. Children under 5 admitted free. Cost of admission includes samples of all chili and five voting tickets, a hot dog, chips and a bottle of water. Spider-Man will also be on hand from 1-2 p.m. for free pictures. New this year: Flu shots will be available from Walgreens. If applicable, bring your insurance card.
BARNESVILLE ASSUMPTION Church Catholic Women’s Club invites you to its luncheon and dinner during the 60th Pumpkin Festival. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 28, the CWC will be holding a luncheon featuring homemade food, a craft and bake sale, a basket raffle with 17 prizes and a 50/50 drawing. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 29, a homestyle-cooked dinner will be served, including roast beef, noodles, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, roll, dessert and a drink. Carryout service is available. Assumption Church also has parking for a fee. Come have a seat in the basement where the festival began and enjoy a bite to eat.
THE BARNESVILLE Pumpkin Festival Committee is selling pumpkin seeds from past King Pumpkins. Seeds from the 2022 King Pumpkin are $100 each. Last year’s King Pumpkin was grown by Erik Gunstrom of Harrison City, Pennsylvania, and was the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival’s largest pumpkin ever. It set a Pennsylvania state record at 2,405 pounds. Seeds from the 2023 King Pumpkin are $20 each or three for $50. This year’s winner weighed in at 1,950 pounds and was grown by Bill Neptune of New Concord, Ohio. THE OHIO Valley Promenaders hold line dancing lessons at 6 p.m. and square dances and lessons at 7 p.m. every Tuesday at the Bellaire Public Library community room. The group is open to all ages. While many of the Promenaders are seasoned pros, they are always accepting new members. Newcomers can jump in quickly, as square dancing is based on walking to eight counts and the caller leads dancers on what to do in a “learn as you go” fashion. For more information, call 740-676-2136.
