Pirates recall relievers, cut Borucki

CHICAGO (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled left-handed pitcher Evan Sisk and right-hander Colin Holderman from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday before their series opener against the Cubs in Chicago. In a corresponding move, the Pirates designated lefty Ryan Borucki for assignment. Sisk, a 28-year-old rookie reliever, was acquired from Kansas City at the trade deadline in a deal that sent starter Bailey Falter to the Royals. HOUSTON (AP) — Houston Astros All-Star closer Josh Hader will be shut down from throwing for approximately three weeks after the team announced Friday he has been diagnosed with left shoulder capsule strain. Hader was placed on the injured list on Monday for the first time in his nine-year major league career because of a shoulder strain. (AP) — The NCAA fined Michigan tens of millions of dollars Friday and suspended coach Sherrone Moore for a third game as punishment for a sprawling sign-stealing scandal that has loomed over college football’s winningest program for nearly two years, including its championship season in 2023. Suwinski swats homer to lift Pirates in ninth

CHICAGO (AP) — Jack Suwinski hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the ninth inning to give the Pittsburgh Pirates a 3-2 win over the struggling Chicago Cubs on Friday. Suwinski, a Chicago native, hit Daniel Palencia’s (1-3) 1-1 fastball the opposite way, into the left-field bleachers for his third homer.
