Creating a cozy space

BRIDGEPORT — As fall arrives and the weather gets cooler, having a cozy, comfortable living space in the home becomes more important.

Creating a cozy space can be done with simple ideas such as using layers of decorative blankets and pillows, changing wall color to a warmer tone, using soft textured rugs, changing lighting, adding curtains and using plants, flowers and candles.

Furniture is also a big part of creating a cozy space in the home, and Carol Saffield of Wilson’s Furniture in Bridgeport knows what customers are looking for these days to complete their cozy space. Saffield has sold furniture at Wilson’s since 2005 and has worked in the furniture business since 1985.

Saffield said the trends toward comfort and coziness are reflected in Wilson’s main sofa brands, La-Z-Boy, Flexsteel and Smith Brothers. She said the latest trends in sofas include loose cushions that can be removed for more space to lie down and extra decorative pillows that are included with the sofa.

“We have a large variety of products and something for everyone here,” said Saffield. “The trend in sofas and sectionals is performance fabrics that are easy to clean and durable, and the comfort of power reclining. People like to have the control of stopping the recline at whatever point they are most comfortable.”

The performance fabrics include a reinforced leather product that is scratch and stain resistant and fade resistant.

“It is called Nouveau leather on the Flexsteel brand and Renew leather on the La-Z-Boy brand. It is leather fused with a special backing. It is resistant to damage from pets, durable and easy to clean using distilled water and ivory liquid or blue Dawn liquid,” said Saffield.

Another “performance” fabric available on all three brands at Wilson’s is called i-clean, which is a textured cloth fabric that is also easy to clean and comes in a large variety of colors.

“Earth tones are very popular now, but we have a wide range of colors and fabrics available,” said Saffield.

“Our prices are very competitive. We are actually able to sell La-Z-Boy products at a lower cost than the La-Z-Boy stores in Pittsburgh. We have five salespeople here that are very experienced and can help people create their perfect space,” said Saffield.
