‘Women Speak’ program set at Towngate

WHEELING — Towngate Theatre will again host the Women of Appalachia Project “Women Speak,” a presentation of story, poetry and song showcasing women artists from throughout the Appalachian region. Historical Society of Mount Pleasant celebrates 75th anniversary

MOUNT PLEASANT — This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Historical Society of Mount Pleasant. The historical society was founded in 1948 and is one of Ohio’s oldest active historical organizations. It originally was formed to assure the preservation of the Ohio Yearly Quaker Meeting House. Since then it has grown significantly and expanded to include the Mount Pleasant Township of Jefferson County as well as the surrounding communities, particularly the communities with Quaker influence that do not have their own society to preserve their records. Landscape Design 101 offered in Harrison County

CADIZ — Join the Jefferson & Harrison Master Gardener Volunteers from 9 a.m. to noon May 27 at the Harrison County Fairgrounds, 550 Grant St., Cadiz, to learn about the basics of landscape design. The Landscape Design 101 workshop will cover topics including choosing the right plant for the right place, design concepts and principles, and steps in designing a landscape. People’s University series will explore Japanese culture

Starting May 4 at 7 p.m. for five consecutive Thursday evenings, the Ohio County Public Library in Wheeling is partnering with The Japan Outreach Initiative (J.O.I.) at West Liberty University to present classes about Japanese culture. The Japanese Outreach Initiative is a joint program of the Global Partnerships Department of the Japan Foundation in Japan and the Laurasian Institution, USA, that brings volunteer Japanese coordinators to regions of the United States where Japanese culture has been less accessible.
