70th annual Follies to be celebrated

BELLAIRE — St. John Central Academy announced that its 70th Annual Follies began Friday and continues Saturday, May 4, in the school gymnasium on Guernsey Street.

The musical production began in 1954 under the direction of Anthony R. Picchi and has evolved into a combination of minstrel and variety show with its soloists, dancers and joke-tellers. This year, the show will celebrate its anniversary with some classic Follies songs, such as “Can’t Help Falling in Love With You,” “Proud Mary,” “Surfin USA,” “When Irish Eyes are Smiling” and many more.

“God has blessed me to work with great people on this show,” said director Brent Kimball. “I have to also thank the kids for their input with everything. They have helped from selecting songs to coming up with motions to even working on the props and backdrop for the show.”

The show begins at 6:30 p.m. Cost for admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
