She was born on September 27, 1927, in Malaga, Ohio to the late Charles and Mary (Buckio) Hunkler. Lois was a 1945 graduate of Beallsville High School. After high school, she attended Ohio State School of Cosmetology and owned and operated a beauty shop in Barnesville until the late 1950s.
