Religion

Dear Editor,

For the sake of facilitating discussion in the public square, religion may be defined as “the authority or authorities one consults to define and answer questions of ultimate importance.” As such, everyone is religious even the atheist who is an authority or a god unto himself or herself.-Jn 10:30-39

In The Times Leader article, “Here’s how we can bring people to God and religion,” May 12, 2023, Dennis Prager cites John Adams’ quote, “Our Constitution was made for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

In this paradigm and crucible of God’s freedom and uniqueness, ultimate, religious choices are made by everyone as to what is moral or immoral–what is evil and what is good–what is holy or unholy–acceptable or unacceptable in the public square. With all due respect for Adams, no non-religious people exist.

Fascists, Communists, and Secular Progressives are just as adamant about their beliefs and their ultimate effect on other people as any Christian or other religious group. Their beliefs constitute the essence of their relationships public and private.

Governments are formed based on these beliefs. The United States remains unique in its founding as a nation sanctioned by the Supreme Judge of the world–Jesus the Christ–who, as the Son of man, pioneered and perfected saving grace/favor as the very gift of God.-Jn 5:22, Mt 27:46, 21:43, Eph 2:8-9, RSV

This worldview continues to be challenged by fascist, communist, and secular progressive forces, both domestic and foreign, rejecting and lying about

The United States’s remarkable beginning as stated in the Declaration of Independence. Along with the Constitution based on “The Rule of Law” and Free Enterprise that honors the essence of Mt 6:24a, “You cannot serve God and mammon . . . ,” these three pillars of our national existence are now greatly imperiled. “All of this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.”-II Cor 5:18

Momentous events unfold almost daily as conflict rages or is ominously threatened as an ultimate resolution looms wherein one of the totalitarian forces prevails for a time or “new heavens and a new earth wherein righteousness dwells” occurs.-II Ptr 3:13
