Ohio Issue 1

Dear Editor, Voting No on Issue 1 protects our freedoms and majority rule. For more than a century, Ohio citizens have been able to pass an amendment to the state Constitution with a simple majority of votes. Issue 1 threatens majority rule and allows only 40% of voters to stop proposals that are supported by 60%. The Constitution belongs to the people of Ohio and we have a right to amend it with a popular majority. We must all do our civic duty. Working families in this state deserve the ability to have a say in what our Constitution says and who gets to amend it. Issue 1 ...

Life is a continuum

Dear Editor, An individual’s life is a continuum. If there’s anything after death, I don’t know, but when does life begin? At conception? At birth? This is the crux of the problem regarding abortion. At the most basic level, what distinguishes one individual from another? I think most would agree that, biologically, each of us is defined by out genetic code — our DNA. So, perhaps the question should be when does an individual’s DNA first appear? The answer is that each person’s DNA is formed when the egg is fertilized at conception. If, in ...

Visit senior centers

Dear Editor, This letter is twofold, first to acknowledge, then to encourage. After spending time at an event on Thursday, May 18th, sponsored by the Senior Services of Belmont County/SSOBC to celebrate Older Americans, I want to express my appreciation to all those responsible and engaged in this event. Staff and the various vendors shared invaluable information and offered professional advice. I would encourage all those 60 years of age and older to visit your local senior center and before you say joining your local center is not for you, take the opportunity to visit and see what ...

Courage

Dear Editor, There is a very bad preaching method that has weakened a majority of churches for decades. It’s not enough that we have to deal with prosperity shysters who steal from the congregation and those who water the Bible down to motivational speeches. No, as bad as these are there is a group of pastors that teach a “third way” type of sermon. Basically it goes like this, there is the conservative way, and there is the progressive way but we in the church won’t engage about the issues of the day because all we want people to understand is the gospel of Jesus and His way. ...

Deep State criminals

Dear Editor, How can liberal Democrats continue to support your party with all of its criminality and coercion with the Deep State that allows for the two tiered justice system. The release of the Durham investigation only exposes more of their criminality. Democrats and Comey lied to the FISA courts! Hillary, Strzok, Page, Brennan, Clapper and many others lied to the courts, Congress and the American people, and none of them have been charged or prosecuted! Hillary destroyed at least “30,000 subpoenaed emails, phones, computers, SIM cards and allowed lawyers without ...

Change needed at animal shelter

Dear Editor, I am a small animal veterinarian who has a non-profit animal rescue. I have taken approximately 30 dogs from Belmont County, so the articles and letter to the editor on the Shelter were of great interest. I have worked with Jodi Apitzsch on animal welfare issues for almost 30 years, and with her husband, Aaron, since 2010. Their integrity and honesty is beyond reproach. Aaron’s photographs of the animals are nothing short of stunning, and the personal narratives about their experiences with the animals are incredibly insightful. To characterize them, and other ...
