Regarding the atomic bomb

Dear Editor, In response to Bob Wallace’s letter. I heartily agree. President Truman made the right decision. By doing this, he probably saved 3 million lives ( a million American and 2 million Japanese). The war probably could have lasted two more years to accomplish the same results. A fitting legacy for the last great Democrat president. Thomas Costine, veteran Richland Township

Candidate: Constitutional policing is the answer

Dear Editor, The truth is some candidates talk about criminal justice reform, while others are actually engaged in it. Almost 25 years ago, I found that my beliefs and values were taking me in a dedicated direction. I realized that doing the right thing for those accused of crimes was where my heart and soul were leading me in my law practice. What I saw while defending the accused left me to wonder what had happened to the founding principles of our nation. The cases I took on and the people I defended helped me to see we were heading away from justice and my work paved ...

The retirement of an area icon

Dear Editor, Mr. Robert “Bubba” Kapral has recently announced he has retired from his outstanding career in local journalism after 42 years of outstanding service in keeping area readers such as myself very well informed. I would like to take this opportunity to respectfully refelct on his laudatory career and much-appreciated work. Mr. Kapral, whose career in professional journalism began as a sports writer in July 1978, working under the tutelage of another local journalistic sports icon, Mr. Calvin Pokas, at The Times Leader in Martins Ferry. He also later worked as ...

To Be or Not

Dear Editor, The Bible-”The Book of Life”-is also “The Book of Judgment” wherein the Triune God makes himself known, in part, through the creation of matter and human beings as revealed by him in Gen 1:1-2:25, Jn 1:1-3, Rom 1:19-21 & Mk 12:29-31. In a paradigm of freedom, God expressed his will to grow human beings into his image of wisdom, righteousness, pleasure, and joy that constitute love. “Thou dost show me the path of life; in thy presence there is fulness of joy, in thy right hand are pleasures for evermore.”-Ps 16:11 The greatness of humanity’s freedom of choice ...

Reader disagrees about bomb

Dear Editor, I am responding to “The Bomb Wasn’t Necessary”. The writer is entitled to his opinion, but I think it is revisionist and not supported by the facts. I will encourage readers to read the legitimate history. As U.S. forces slowly worked to end the war, they came to Okinawa, the largest of the Ryuku Islands, some 350 miles off the Japanese mainland. Viewed as a precursor to invading Japan, this battle lasted from April 1–June 21, 1945, and claimed 12,000 Americans, 100,000 Japanese forces and over 100,000 civilians killed in combat or ordered to commit suicide by the ...

The Future

Dear Editor, A few days ago I saw a pastor on TV say something that really was quite profound. He said there are people who want little 5-year-old boys and girls to use the same bathrooms and for them to be read stories at public libraries by drag queens. There are people who want to kill babies inside and outside the womb. There are people who believe the rights of the criminal and illegal alien have more rights than a naturalized citizen. There are people who believe that their property is theirs and your property is theirs as well. There are people who want to defund the police ...
