Trump actions on Russia a concern

Dear Editor, How disconcerting and troubling is it that President Donald Trump chooses to either deny and/or completely downplay the recently revealed plot by the Russian government to pay bounties to Taliban militants to kill U.S. troops in Afghanistan, which was confirmed by U.S. intelligence officials, and that in spite of his denials, President Trump was so informed in a daily presidential briefing in February 2020 which was originally reported by The New York Times? Specifically, it has been reported by U.S. intelligence sources that Russia made “large payments” to the ...

Ensure voters can cast ballots safely

Dear Editor, Do you know who’s voting by mail this election? Donald Trump. And do you know who’s making it harder for everyone else in the country to vote by mail in the middle of a global pandemic? That’s right — Donald Trump. He and other White House officials have gone on record with false claims against mail-in voting, even though it’s one of the safest options for us to cast our ballots as the country recovers from this pandemic. In the face of Trump’s hypocrisy, I expect Congress to do the right thing and provide both economic relief and expanded funding for ...

Weigh benefits of proposed cracker

Dear Editor, I live in a small town in southeast Ohio, about a half hour away from Parkersburg, West Virginia. I remember being beyond excited to learn that a major Hollywood film was being made about my community, Todd Haynes’ excellent 2019 feature “Dark Waters.” The film focuses on chemical giant DuPont’s willful poisoning of the Parkersburg area via the manufacturing of Teflon, which exposed countless numbers of unknowing citizens to the deadly chemical known as C8. I ended up seeing “Dark Waters” twice in the same Parkersburg movie theater, and went with a friend ...

Heart, head and hands

Dear Editor, In light of the recent chaos in the streets, I’ve been thinking that virtue-signaling might better be called virtue-searching. It seems that many of the young kids in the streets who are tangled up in slogans and utopia promises are truly searching for a better way to be. I’d feel much more inclined to support their protest movement, though, if the marchers carried signs that read, “I’m confused.” One of the most solidly virtuous men I ever came across in my life was my grandfather. Once while buying me a fishing license (or it could have been a hunting license) ...

Enough!

Dear Editor, As I look upon the American landscape, I have only one word to say to my fellow Americans of this great country: Enough! We have allowed the perverse and destructive too much leeway for too long. This is no longer a civil battle between ideologies of Democrats and Republicans but a civil war of totalitarianism and freedom. Our children, black and white, have been manipulated and bubble wrapped too long by our overindulgent tolerance for perversion of societal norms and disregard for the rule of law. This country is the best hope of a world gone mad and if the new world ...

Words of a warrior

Dear Editor, I am a United States Army Warrior. I will fight for freedom with honor, diligence and valor. I so love my country that I will fight or die for it, anywhere, anytime. I love America with all my being. Should I be injured, I will accept that. If I die, I will hope my loved ones won’t mourn too long for I go to war willingly. I will volunteer for war because too many men are afraid to sacrifice themselves. I, too, am afraid for I don’t know what to expect, but once there my fear will pass quickly, and I will do the job I was trained for by the best cadre and training ...
