WHEELING — A season to remember. Make that two seasons to remember. Wheeling Post 1's American Legion baseball team enjoyed another brilliant summer of success. Post 1 finished the campaign with a sparkling 32-13 record. Those 32 wins encompassed an impressive second-place finish in the massive Edgar Martin Beast of the East Classic, a regional tournament win and, most importantly, a second straight state championship. WHEELING — The stars came out Saturday night as WesBanco Arena played host to the 13th annual OVAC Hall of Fame induction ceremony. And while 12 classes — encompassing more than 200 honorees— have already been enshrined, the latest inductees took their rightful place in the OVAC Hall with glowing credentials. Prep football season begins on Thursday

WHEELING - The wait is nearly over. While the OVAC Rudy Mumley All-Star game provided us an appetizer, the main course of prep football will be served up beginning Thursday. A pair of regular-season games will be staged that night at Harding Stadium in Steubenville. Most of the OVAC schools will debut Friday with a few more doing the same on Saturday. The Lee Ann Scramble had developed into one of the premier events of the summer season, but had been removed from the calendar for the last few years. It’s back again and is once again honors Lee Ann Schambach The event is slated for Aug. 28 at Belmont Hills Country Club with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
