St. Clairsville is third at D-II sectional wrestling tourney

Red Devils produce three champions, advance nine to districts; UL sending two

STEUBENVILLE — St. Clairsville finished third at the Division II Eastern District sectional wrestling tournament Saturday inside the Crimson Center at Steubenville High School.

The Red Devils tallied 206 points while Beaver Local won the event with 218. Steubenville was second with 210.5.

St. Clairsville advanced nine individuals to next week’s district tournament at Gallia Academy High School. Three are going as sectional champions, those being Koen Kish (132), Reese Skaggs (220) and Logan Fry (285).

Kish barely worked up a sweat in earning his crown. He recorded pins of 24 seconds, 29 seconds and 31 seconds in the finals. The Clarion University recruit is now 33-2.

Skaggs, who improved to 28-3, posted a 9-3 decision of New Philadelphia’s Logan Ortt in the finals. He had pins in 27 and 20 seconds in his two earlier matches.

Fry, who was 16-14 entering the tournament, pinned Beaver Local’s Zane McCoy in 4:39 for his championship. The sixth seed out of six wrestlers, he pinned the third seed in the quarterfinals before edging the No. 2 seed in the semis in overtime.

Zach McKeever (120), Harrison Kazmirski (126) and Caden Stout (145) all finished as runnersup. Gannon Kazmirski (106) finished third and Mason McCort (152) was fourth. Austin DaRe (17) is an alternate after placing fifth.

At Uhrichsville, Union Local advanced two individuals to the district as the Jets competed at Claymont High School.

Claude Romshack (170) placed third while Brady Crum (152) finished fourth.

Taking fifth and serving as alternates are Colin Greenwood (106), Nathaniel Gibson (138), Devin Crum (145) and Aiden Myers (160).
