Davis, Price win third consecutive term

WOODSFIELD — Incumbent Monroe County Commissioners Tim R. Price and Carl M. Davis, both Democrats, each won a third consecutive four-year term.

Price captured 3,293 votes, defeating Independents Patti S. Haralson with 2,103 and Mark Hutchinson with 950. Davis gathered 2,553 votes, beating Republican Fred Binegar with 2,204 and Independent Misty Tolzda with 1,861. All figures are according to unofficial totals reported on Tuesday.

Both Davis and Price said completion of the construction project for the new jail and certification of the county care facility by the state and federal governments are the most pressing items on their agenda.

However, they both know that economic development is the most important issue facing them and fellow Commissioner Mick Schumacher, who was not facing re-election this year.

The oil and gas industry is perceived to be where the much-needed jobs will be generated.

During the election campaign there was a lot of discussion about luring an ethane cracker plant to Monroe County, but Price isn’t sure there will be a desire to build one in such close proximity to the facility that is moving closer to completion in Belmont County. He does believe both the Leach Xpress and Rover pipeline projects, along with extraction of reserves within the county, will help fuel economic development over the next four years.

In the race for Judge of the County Court, Jason A. Yoss defeated Clifford N. Sickler with 53 percent of the vote.

Both the health and soil/water levies at the county level were approved by voters, by margins of approximately 3 percentage points.

The only municipal tax levy that was not approved by local voters was the measure to add cemetery plots in Clarington village, where 89 voted against while 50 were in favor.

LOOM Lodge 2247 and the Russell Family Bowling Center both received liquor options approved by residents in the Woodsfield north precinct.
